Betty Lewis
BURLEY – Betty Lea Lewis, age 92, of Burley, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at 10:10 a.m. at the Parke View Rehabilitation and Care center in Burley.
Betty was born July 2, 1922, on Lopez Island, in the San Juan Islands on Puget Sound, Washington State. She lived there with her father and mother James and Bernice and her sister Marie. When Betty was 13 the family moved to Sumner, WA.
Betty attended nursing school and received her nursing credentials near the end of WWII. She met and married her husband Donald G. Lewis after his return from the India Theater of Operations. They lived in Washington State until 1953, when they moved to San Diego, Calif., as Donald pursued a law enforcement job there. Betty had three children: Steven, Gregory, and Tamorah. Betty left the nursing profession and raised her three children and ran the household. After her divorce from Donald in 1969, Betty returned to nursing and worked in the OB/GYN field until her retirement at age 70 in 1992. In the Spring of 1993, she moved to Rupert, Idaho, where she lived with her sister Marie and her husband John (JC) McKnight.
In 2005, Betty suffered a severe illness and was placed in the Parke View Rehabilitation and Care center in Burley, where she remained until her death. She was cared for by a wonderful staff and supported by family and friends.
Betty is survived by her son, Steven Lewis and his wife Darlene; daughter-in-law, Cristi Lewis (Greg’s wife); grandchildren, Eric, Nicholas, Samantha, Brigit, and Gatts; and great grandson, Peyton. Sadly, Tamorah Lewis passed away in 2003, and Gregory Lewis passed away in 2010.
Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed life, loved God and family. She loved playing the piano, cooking (amazing pies), sewing, reading, gardening (she loved flowers - yellow roses were her favorite), shopping (especially through catalogs). She was very devoted to her faith and the fellowship of her friends. In her recent years she was passionate about her art work and very proud of it. Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 East 16th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at the Paul Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home.
