Edith Irene Dille

BURLEY - Edith Irene Davis Dille, 88, of Burley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1926, in Jerome, Idaho, the daughter of Eynon Leon and Rachel (Jones) Davis. She received her education in Jerome and graduated from Jerome High School. She later took higher education classes in nutrition. She married her sweetheart, Lewis K. Dille on Jan. 4, 1945, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had been married for nearly 70 years.

Edith worked in the school lunch program for the Cassia County School District as supervisor and had also worked on the State level. However, Edith’s greatest achievement was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She used her outstanding homemaking skills in providing an exceptional loving atmosphere for her family. The family home was always a refuge from life’s storms. She enjoyed cooking, gardening (especially her flower beds), crocheting, humming bird and finch watching, family history, and canning. Additionally, she loved to quilt and had a special friendship with a group of ladies of the community who quilted every Monday for many years. The friendships made with these special women was a priceless treasure to not only Edith, but to her husband.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully throughout her life. She and Lewis were privileged to serve two full time missions - one in the Australia Sydney Mission and the second in the Singapore Mission. Another highlight in Edith’s life was being able to sing with the Singing Mothers in the Mormon Tabernacle for General Conference.

We are grateful for the many years we had her as a companion and as the matriarch of our family.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis K. Dille of Burley; her children, Larry D. (Sandra) Dille (currently serving in the Africa Mozambique Mission), Neil D. (Brenda) Dille of Burley, LuRene Dille of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and Ronald D. (Karen) Dille of Riverdale, Utah; 21 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Daryl D. Dille and Lynn D. Dille; and all of her siblings.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Burley LDS West Stake Center, 2420 Parke Ave., in Burley, with Bishop Kerry McMurray officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
