Marie Wood Redder
BURLEY - Alice Marie Wood Redder, 88, of Burley, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Rosetta Assisted Living in Burley.
She was born on March 2, 1926, in Burley, Idaho, the daughter of Frank Arnold and Lucille (Price) Larson. She graduated from Burley High School and completed her education at the University of Idaho in Moscow. She married Golden Wood on June 12, 1947, in Burley. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Dec. 17, 1948.
Marie worked for several doctors’ offices in Burley and retired from Dr. Wendell Wells’ office in 2006 at the age of 80. She enjoyed needlepoint, cooking, gardening and reading, and especially liked BYU football. However, most important to Marie was her family. She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and a beloved grandmother.
She was an excellent homemaker and was nicknamed “Sweet Marie” for her famous pies. She always made sure you ate! The grandchildren always looked forward to Christmas at Grandma Marie’s house. She loved playing games and would accept a badminton challenge from her grandchildren, even if it happened in December.
Marie learned to handle trials and adversity with grace and dignity. She especially demonstrated this after the death of her beloved husband, Goldie. By her faith and determination, she was a strength to those around her.
Following the death of Goldie, she married Ken Redder on Dec. 5, 1997. They were able to enjoy their love and companionship for nearly 13 years until Ken’s passing in 2010.
Marie was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as Primary president, in the stake Relief Society, and worked in the Logan Utah LDS Temple for 15 years. Many friendships were bonded through her faithful and dedicated service.
She is survived by her children, Roland McKay (Colleen) Wood of Burley, Lance L. (Pam) Wood of Bountiful, Utah, Peggy (Stephen) Portela of Montpelier, Trudy (Lance) Flora of Pleasant View, Utah, and Marilyn (Todd) White of Twin Falls; 15 grandchildren; and 22 (with two on the way) great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arnold Larson and Max Larson; and a grandson, Tyson Portela.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at the Burley LDS Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave., in Burley. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Highland Estates Assisted Living, Rosetta Assisted Living, and to Intermountain Homecare for the loving and tender care given to Marie.
