June S. Douthit

PAUL - June Ione Squires Douthit, 84, of Paul, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.

June was born on July 16, 1930, in Riverside, Calif., the daughter of William Earl and Bessie Louise (Hadley) Squires. She attended Polytechnic High School, the same school her father went to when it was an all boys school. The family moved to Perris, Calif., where June graduated from the Perris High School. While in school she was president of the school choir, song leader in girls league, vice president of GAA, and worked on the paper staff. She was also a pom pom girl. She was a member of the Jobs Daughters and was Honored Queen.

She married Gilbert Ray on Sept. 11, 1949, and together they had three children, Gilbert, Jacki, and Tony. She married Ray Douthit in 1959, and they had one son, Mark.

June worked at several banks and a trailer manufacturing company while living in California. In 1969, the family moved to Declo. She started her final career with the JC Penney Company, starting in the Rupert store and retiring from the Burley location. She enjoyed all the people she worked with and the customers.

She got a new companion in 2000, a Pomeranian named Andy. He pretty well ran her life. She loved to knit, crochet and working in her yard. She made many hand items including sweaters, Christmas socks and ornaments, afghans and slippers for all the little ones. She wanted her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to know just how much she loved them all.

June is survived by her children, Gilbert Ray of Kimberly, Jacki (Orllo) Kidd of Declo, Tony (Toni Ann) Ray of Heyburn, and Mark (Julie) Douthit of Rupert; a sister, Betty Brown of Burley; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Thais Kidd.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the Declo Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
