Janet I. Asher
1947 - 2015
DECLO - Janet Ilene Asher received her wings on May 12, 2015. She passed in the comfort of her own home surrounded by loved ones. Janet fought a long, hard battle with Multiple Sclerosis for the past ten years. Janet very seldom complained and was strong for those around her up to the very end.
Janet was born on Sept. 24, 1947, to Jim B. “Pud” and Doris J. (Olson) Hitt in Bridge, Idaho. Janet was one of six children, Jim, Judy, Joe, John and Jill. Janet grew up on horseback and helping out on the family ranch. Janet attended schools in Malta and Declo. She had a very special bond with her maternal grandma and spent much of her childhood at her Nanny’s house in Burley, Idaho.
Janet married Jim “Freck” Asher in American Falls, Idaho, on Nov. 10, 1962. Soon after their marriage, they were blessed with their first born son, Todd, and one year after followed their second son, Troy. After Troy’s arrival, they moved to Klammath Falls, Ore., as Freck cowboyed on a ranch and Janet cared and tended to her two young boys. From Oregon, they made the move to Dillon, Mont., where they continued to work on a ranch and were blessed with their baby boy, Travis. For several years they continued the ranching life style and moved on to the O Bar Z Ranch in Nevada.
Upon returning to Idaho, Janet and Freck permanently made their home at the Hitt Appaloosa Ranch in Declo, Idaho. With all the boys in school, Janet decided to work outside of the home where she was employed at Simplot’s, Ore-Ida and the Y-Dell Market in Burley, Idaho.
With Janet on the Ranch there was never a weed or an unpainted fence post in sight. Janet’s home and yard was always immaculate and her boys never left the house without a quick spit shine and looking their very best. Janet had a special love for her many nieces and nephews and always had the candy dish full for their pleasure.
Janet’s boys were all very active at Declo High School and participated in many sports and activities from rodeo, football, and basketball, to wrestling - and Janet was always their biggest fan.
Janet is survived by her spouse of 53 years, Freck Asher; her three boys, Todd (Carol), Troy (Linda) and Travis (Bobbie Jo); ten grandchildren, Blake, Wade, Zach, Laramie, Timbrie, Bryson, Ivy, Braxton, Maddy and Gracie; 4 great-grandchildren, Regen, Jace, Memphis and Blaklie; her sister, Judy (Ray) Anderson; her brothers, Jim (Jolene) Hitt, Joe Hitt and John Hitt; her in-laws, Shanna Batterton, Georgian Anderson, Marla Anderson, and Dale Asher; and many nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Pud and Doris Hitt; grandparents, Ray and Irene Olson, and John and Fern Hitt; a sister, Jill Hitt, one sister-in-law, Teresa Hitt; a niece, Kari Hitt John; two nephews, Ollie Anderson and Dakota Anderson; and in-laws, Preston and Nellie Asher, Tom Asher, Terry Asher, Don Asher, and Carma Adams.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Intermountain Homecare; Kay, Bobbie, Stacy, Mario and Ilene. Thank you for your loving care and friendship to our beloved Janet.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the Declo Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen Funeral Home of Burley.
