Mildred King
HEYBURN - Mildred King, 97, of Heyburn, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at her home.
She was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Moreland, Idaho, the daughter of Burton S. McBride and Cynthia Adeline Jones McBride. She was the third of seven children.
Mildred moved with her family several times during her childhood, attending school in Moreland, Pocatello, Big Bend, Heyburn, and then returning to Moreland, where she graduated from high school. After graduation, she spent the next year working in Blackfoot to earn enough money to attend Ricks College.
She met John King while they were both visiting a mutual friend in Heyburn. After three years of long-distance courtship by mail, and four dates, they were married April 1, 1940, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised seven children and shared 69 years together in the home John built for them when they were engaged.
Mildred loved her many flower gardens and John’s apple orchard, from which she baked apple pies for any grandchild who came to visit. She found great joy in the countless hours she spent hand-quilting beautiful quilts for members of her family. She treasured the friendships she formed over the last 18 years exercising with the Over 60 and Getting Fit CSI walking class.
Mildred was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings in the Relief Society, Mutual and Primary. Later in life, she and John served together as workers in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple for eight years.
She is survived by her seven children, Ilina Welker of Heyburn, Dale (Karen) King of Orofino, Diana (Grant) Hendrix of Brooklings, Ore., Ferril (René) King of Heyburn, Leann (Ted - deceased) Smith of Heyburn, Janice (Paige - deceased) Wakly of Ft. Campbell, Ky., and Jackie (Scott) Slivka of Murray, Utah; one sister, Elma (Glen) Bixler of Nampa; 36 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Heyburn Ward LDS Church, 300 S. 500 W., of Heyburn, with Bishop Clayton King officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.
