VaLayne Wake Hadley

VaLayne Wake Hadley

Jun. 7, 1941 - Mar. 31, 2020

Date of Service: Apr. 17, 2020

ELBA – VaLayne Wake Hadley, 78, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

She was born June 7, 1941, in Conda, Idaho, to Lovina and Nathaniel Wake. She was their second child and mostly grew up in the Elba valley with her four sisters and one brother. She graduated from Raft River High School in 1959, then later, she went on to Weber State College where she met the love of her life, Orlin. They were married in the Logan Temple on March 22, 1961. They were married for 59 amazing years. In those years they had many adventures as well as 12 beautiful children; six boys and six girls.

Valayne was an amazing woman who always had a smile on her face. She never had a bad thing to say about a single soul. She was someone you could always count on whether you needed a hug, a meal, or a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman who never met a stranger because she would always reach out to others with a smile on her face. She was a homemaker while her children were growing up; then later, she had a professional life as well.

VaLayne was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many callings. One of her favorites was being the chorister. Music was one of her favorite things in life. She was an amazing piano player and loved to teach others how to play as well. She loved many genres of music, although her all-time favorite music was Christmas – she would have played it all year long, but Dad put his foot down, so she started playing it in July!

She is survived by her husband, Orlin; her children, Alayna (Steve) Shiver, Eric Hadley, Angela (Michael) Calhoun, Camille (Norman) Boley, David (Donna) Hadley, Loralee (Paul) Hansberger, Crystal (Joshua) Holloway, and Nathan Hadley; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Darlene Anderson, and Tedi Wixom; and her brother, Kenyon Tuttle.

Family was so important to her. She loved to spend time with all of her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved them all to no end. There is a hole in our heart, she will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her children, Kerry, Lillian, Donald, and Daniel; her grandson, Anthony; her parents, Nathaniel and Lovina Wake; her sisters, Nadine and Carla; her in-laws, Samuel and Lillian Hadley; and many aunts and uncles.

Our family would like to thank Minidoka Home Health, Dr. Margo Saunders and her staff, and the Elba Ward for all the support and love they showed to our mother and family.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17, at the Elba Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

From Jerry Charles Giles:
VaLayne and I are cousins. (Our mothers were sisters) We were born just a year apart in the little mining town of Conda, Idaho, a town that doesn't even exist anymore. We became good friends and spent a lot of time with each other growing up, even though she was a a girl and I was a boy. After high school we went our separate ways, began raising our own families, and eventually got into the grandparent stage of life. We still saw each other occasionally at family reunions, and she was always her usual kind and friendly self. In recent years, we haven't kept in touch as much as we used to, but I can attest that all of the nice things said about her in her
obituary are absolutely true. She loved the Lord, and lived her life accordingly. Sincere sympathy Orlin and family.
From Travis Rice:
To a very beautiful woman and a wonderful distant relative! You always were awesome in everything you did. I always enjoyed going into the store, and having a casual talk with you. You, Dottie and Wanda were so awesome along with Bernie. Rest easy lady. This is not good but but it until next time.
From Melody Byrd :
So sorry to hear she has passed but know she is singing in heaven with the angels Christmas music. I only met her a couple of times growing up as I went to school with Crystal. Hugs and prayers to the family.
From Verda Vee Adams Villarma:
I am sorry that I never got to know VaLayne. After reading her obituary I realized that she was a relative. My Mother and her Dad were 1st cousins. My Mother was Verda Wickel Adams Anderson and we lived just below Lovina on the corner. I remember Nathaniel was killed in World War 11. Please except my deepest sympathy.
From Michael Calhoun:
The day we met, she punched me in the arm, because I stopped her from punching me in the stomach. She was so sweet, she always accepted me, even when that wasn't popular. She is the love of my life's momma, and was always there when she was needed. Will miss her.
