Jerry H. Day

Feb. 7, 1939 - May 23, 2020

Date of Service: Jun. 1, 2020

BURLEY – Jerry Hull Day, 81, of Burley, passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning, May 23, 2020, at Countryside Care & Rehabilitation in Rupert. He probably wanted to get an early start for a jeep ride with all his friends.

Jerry was born February 7, 1939, the first of two children born to Wallace E. Day and Viola Hull. He graduated from Burley High School, then joined the U.S. National Guard.

He married Glenda Anderson Hanks and together they had Danny D. Day and Darren W. Day, then later divorced. He married Mary C Marcotte, to which union he gained two stepchildren, Sean Marcotte and JaNice C. Thompson (Vibbert), then later they had Kristi Dawn Day. After many years together they divorced.

In 2009, he had a stroke that he never fully recovered from. He then moved back in with Mary, who cared for him as long as she could before he moved into Countryside Care & Rehabilitation, where he stayed until his passing.

Jerry started driving truck with his dad at an early age, then took over the trucking company in 1975, and was eventually joined by his two sons and stepson. Jerry lived and breathed trucks and the trucking business. He was known to come home nightly with some sort of extremely large or odd-shaped potato that he had found at work that day. His next obsession became jeeping, and he joined as a member of the local jeep club. He thoroughly enjoyed driving all over the mountains in his jeep. No matter how dirty, steep, or far he traveled, nothing was better than ending at a good fishing hole with Bryson, Tanner, and/or Rylee! Jerry loved life and loved to talk. You could never leave his room without some sort of joke. No matter what kind of mood you were in, he could make you laugh.

He is survived by his children, Danny Day (Jennifer West Mascarro), Darren Day (Susan Andrews Beltran), and Kristi Day (Mike Mullard); stepchildren, Sean M. Marcotte, and JaNice Thompson (Jarrod); grandchildren, Teah Marcotte, Madison Day, Brecca Bacciocco (Nick), Kaden Day, Bryson Asher, Taner Day, Rylee Mullard, Logan Thompson, Trinity Thompson, and Evan Thompson; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Sharla Fox (Lloyd); niece, Sharma Veltri Pena; nephew, Shane Veltri; along with six great-nieces-and-nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Yvette Veltri Dudley; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside for the care they gave Jerry to the end; especially Elsa, Shyla, Angela, Araceli, Janet, Mandy, and Ariana. He truly appreciated all of you. And, “string bean” I don’t know what your given name is, but I know Jerry’s for you. There were and are so many of you whom he appreciated, so if you don’t see your name, know that he loved you all. Without you the world would have been a dull place. THANK YOU!!

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2020, at Gem Memorial Gardens, 2435 Overland Ave., in Burley. Social distancing measures will be in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

Condolences for Jerry H. Day
