Buddy Dean McLaws

May 9, 1951 - Jan. 16, 2021

BURLEY – Buddy Dean McLaws, a 70-year-old Burley resident, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Cassia Regional Hospital in Burley, from complications of diabetes.

Buddy was born May 9, 1950, in Tremonton, Utah. His parents were Afton Franklin and Montez (Lee) McLaws. They both died when he was 15 years old. At that time his biological mother, Eleanor Hall, became his guardian. He was raised with two older sisters, Sharon (McLaws) Webster and Norma V. (McLaws) Wilson, who is deceased. After moving in with his biological mother, he gained a half-sister, Debbie, and four other adopted siblings, John Hall, Louis Hall, Cathy (Hall) Bowler, and Kenny Carlyon.

Bud was married a few times. His last wife, Evelyn Forsythe, passed away several years ago. Buddy has two daughters, Christy Ann (McLaws) Olson and Bobbi Joe (McLaws) Farley. He has several grandchildren, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He served in the United States Navy. He had a wonderful singing voice and had his own band for many years. He opened for the Oak Ridge Boys in Florida. He worked many years in construction before an injury resulted in a disability.

He turned his life around and became a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission at the Family History Center and spent the rest of his life doing genealogy and temple work.

We express our sincere appreciation to the various hospitals, home health organizations, physical therapists, doctors and care givers who helped and served Buddy through this long battle. We also wish to thank those in his ward who were so kind and did so much to help Buddy, and to his next-door neighbor, Jerry, thank you!

A memorial graveside service will be held in the Spring at Declo Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

His Journey’s Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman

Don’t think of him as gone away
His journey’s just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
That we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.

And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched...
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much.

Buddy was there during a very trying time in my life. He did not ask me any questions just let me. He taught me while I was growing up to my brothers are to make me tough because they may not always be there to protect me. But I can depend on them to back me. I remember one year he built each of us a bike for Christmas because mom couldn't buy us a new one. God does give second chances when its time.
