Jimmy "Freck" Asher

May 21, 1942 - Mar. 1, 2021

Date of Service: Mar. 12, 2021

HEYBURN – Jimmy “Freck” Asher took his finale ride on Monday, March 1, 2021. He passed in the comfort of his own home surrounded by loved ones.

Freck was born May 21, 1942, to Preston and Nellie Asher in Albion, Idaho; he was one of ten children.

Freck attended school in Albion and, after completing his schooling, Tom Hitt found him a job on the Hitt Ranch milking cows, which was where he met the love of his life, Janet Hitt. After five months of dating, Freck and Janet were engaged and married one month later on November 16, 1962. Soon after their marriage, they were blessed with their first-born son, Todd, and one year later followed their second son, Troy. After Troy’s arrival, they moved to Klammath Falls, Oregon, where Freck cowboyed on a ranch, and from Oregon, they moved to Dillon, Montana, where he continued to work on a ranch, and Travis, their baby boy, was born. For several years they continued the ranching lifestyle and then moved to the O Bar Z Ranch in Nevada.

Upon returning to Idaho, Freck and Janet permanently made their home on the Hitt Ranch in Declo, Idaho. Freck took a job with Burley Irrigation District, where he worked until he retired. But if you knew Freck, you know that being retired wasn’t for him; he then began driving truck for Handy Truck Line. After truck driving he worked several more years as an equipment operator for Tazz Construction, Mettler Construction, and High Output Construction.

Freck loved his family and always made sure that Janet and the boys had everything they needed. Freck and Janet loved chasing the three boys around, who were all very active in football, basketball, wrestling, and of course, rodeo! Freck was always busy on the ranch over the years. He had several teams of horses he trained to pull the old wagon, which he loved to load all the kids on and take rides. He also enjoyed chariot racing, where he was at the helm of the chariot for many races! Freck also enjoyed a good game of pool; he enjoyed playing in a league with his close friends for many years. Freck was always a happy-go-lucky guy and very seldom would you see him without a big smile on his face.

Freck is survived by his three boys, Todd (Carol), Troy (Linda) and Travis (Bobbie Jo); 10 grandchildren, Blake, Wade, Zach, Laramie, Timbrie, Bryson, Ivy, Braxton, Madie, and Gracie; four great-grandchildren, Regen, Jace, Memphis, and Blakelie; sisters, Shanna Batterton, and Georgene Peterson; his in-laws, Judy (Ray) Anderson, and Jim (Jolene) Hitt, and Joe Hitt.

Freck was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet; his parents, Preston and Nellie Asher; sisters, Carma Adams, Marla Anderson, and Betty Wickel; brothers, Tom Asher, Terry Asher, Don Asher, and Dale Asher; great-granddaughter, Lively Asher; and in-laws, John Hitt and Jill Hitt.

The family would like to give special thanks to Intermountain Homecare & Hospice, especially Tiffany and Ilene. Thank you for your loving care and friendship.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. Urn interment will follow at the Declo Cemetery.

I haven’t had a grandfather figure in quite sometime of my life. Last year, our weekend together, was so enlightening. I was able to hear of your life history, your story, the hard times and the good ones, your brothers and sisters. I was fortunate to see the house you grew up in, the cemetery of seeing your family and saying a final goodbye, the genuine calm of the back country.
