RUPERT – Elvia Garcia Gabiola, 75, of Rupert, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Elvia was born on October 15, 1945, in Cedral San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Teodoro and Refugio Garcia. In 1961, after a childhood of living in many states (Texas, Arizona, Washington, Oregon), her parents settled their family down in Rupert, Idaho.

In 1973, she met the love of her life, Agustin Gabiola, and in March of 1974, they were married. In 1975, they were blessed with their first child, Agustin, and in 1977, their second child, Aristeo. Later in life they were blessed with their grandchildren, Khadijah, Nycole, Aristeo, Korbin, Haileigh, Marcus and Mateo. Her love for her grandchildren was unmatched and she loved all the time she spent with each one of them.

Growing up, Elvia loved school with a passion but out of necessity was forced to quit halfway through her freshman year to help care for her brothers and sister. Her love of education and desire for more never wavered and, in 1983, she began her career at Headstart. While working at Headstart, Elvia continued her own education and, in 2002, life came full circle as she graduated from College of Southern Idaho with her associates degree in Early Childhood Education. Throughout the years she worked her way up to becoming a phenomenal and very loved teacher. She truly loved helping all kids that passed through her classroom and was blessed working with amazing people who became lifelong friends.

Elvia was a member of the Rupert First Free Will Baptist Church. Her years of devotion and service would make her the backbone of this church and through all adversity she made sure those doors stayed open for all who wanted to hear about the love and joy of Jesus Christ. She truly loved the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind and spent countless hours praying for others to find that love. She left a great legacy by living her life in service of her family, her church and her community and truly demonstrated what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ. She will be greatly missed.

Elvia is survived by her husband, Agustin Gabiola; and her children, Agustin (Nicole) Gabiola and Aristeo (Jeanine) Gabiola; her grandchildren, Khadijah, Nycole, Aristeo, Korbin, Haileigh, Marcus and Mateo; and her siblings, Ted (Josie) Garcia, David (Jackie) Garcia, Sam Garcia and Ester Rose.

She was preceded in death by her father, Teodoro, her mother, Refugio; and her siblings, Elvia 1, Moises, Abram 1, Abram 2, Juanita, Juan, Aristeo, Chon, Daniel and Abel.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

From Lois Fisher:
Dear Agustin, Khadijah & family, So sorry to hear of Elvia's passing, but yet I know she is so happy to have a new body, and see Jesus. I can't hardly wait till I get to go see her and all family, too! No more hardship & pain for Elvia, but Praise God we will meet again. So will miss her great humor, & love for God. We had a good time with kids, & sad she didn't get to help me at the BCA due to illness. I will always remember her love for kids & our Saviour. One great lady gone on before us. May God lift & comfort you always! If anything Elvia wanted all you family, especially you kids & grandkids, is to KNOW Jesus for sure in your heart, mind, & soul!! May God bless. Love, Lois & Maxine Fisher and family

Hearing the stories of faith, and your sense of humor. A woman of strong desire for Christ, a woman who knew what she believed, a woman of courage and true grit. Elvia was a faithful woman who served the Lord.
