RUPERT – Carol Ellen McDonnel Manning passed away too soon after a short battle with COVID-19, on December 22, 2021, just one day shy of her 75th birthday.

Carol was the first child born to James Roland and Phyllis McDonnel, on December 23, 1946, in Pasadena, California. Following high school, Carol attended BYU where she met and married Roger Manning. After spending a year living in Germany, Carol and Roger moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where they raised their four children. In 1987, Roger took a job teaching at Minico High School, so the family moved to Rupert, where Carol lived the remainder of her days.

Carol was a beautiful example of Christ-like service and was a thoughtful and generous mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She served faithfully in various church callings throughout her life, and was a proud, active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was known for having the most beautiful flowers in her yard, and loved hosting family Bingo parties.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; and her brother, James McDonnel. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Taylor; her brother, Paul McDonnel; her children, John, Heidi, Craig, and Doug; and 11 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Rupert Stake Center, located at 324 E. 18th St., in Rupert, with Bishop Boyd Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Paul Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, at the church, preceding the funeral.

From Christie Gomez:
I just learned about the loss of wonderful sweet Carol. She was an amazing lady and so grateful that i got the chance to know her and Roger both. She loved shopping and i was the caregiver that stayed with Roger while she enjoyed some shopping time. They both were full of life and humor. We would both share stories about our grandkids and Christmas. So sorry for your loss.

We know that Roger was there to greet her and all the relatives who have passed on. Carol and Roger came to the Manning reunions at Birch Creek and we all could catch up on the busy lives you all have lived! Thanks for the great examples. Also thanks for having the services online so those of us who couldn’t be there in person could still see the services for a very important person in our lives.
From Kathy Thompson :
Doug. We are so sorry for your loss. Nolan and Kathy Thompson.
From Sandra Stevens:
I have many fond memories of Carol. She was a wonderful addition to the staff at Acequia. The children loved her. She truly was a generous and genuine friend. My fondest memory is when she read my post on Facebook quite a few years after I retired and moved to Arizona. Our son was in a terrible accident while on vacation in California with his family. Carol came to our rescue with a simple phone call. She arranged for Darren’s family to be able to stay with a friend of their family while arrangements could be made to get Darren home. That’s how Carol lived, helping others. She will always remain a special lady to our family. I wish I could have hugged Carol one more time. Rest In Peace.
From Suzanne McDonnel Tekulve Rackliffe:
Beautiful funeral program and perfect closing hymn. Thank you for sharing with those of us unable to attend in person. May your family feel comfort and strength as you enjoy so many blessed memories together.
From Sandra Bierman:
I will always remember Carol’s flowers, and how she bought many extra to help beautify some one else’s home. Quiet and humble, never asking for recognition. When the boys were young, she had her own collection of trading cards to teach them how to trade, buy, save, use common sense, and build an awesome bond between them. Carol had many talents. She will be missed. We love you Carol. What a joyful reunion for you and Roger..
From Becky Schow:
We became very fast friends as I worked closely with Carol in the remodel of her home. We had so much fun! Carol often said she really had no taste on decorating… of course that wasn’t true at all. It was a joy seeing Carol’s designing talents blossom! Carol loved Christmas time and I honestly I can’t think of a more fitting time for her passing. We will all remember Carol’s love and kindness and great friendship even more at Christmas time. Bingo will always rule! She is now reunited with loving parents and Roger! Carol is happy and will continue to be an Angel watching over her children and grandchildren forever! I will miss Carol so much, she is a genuine friend! Till we meet again…Love you Forever Carol!
