HEYBURN – Linda Sue Christenson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, at the age of 80, in her Heyburn home, Friday, January 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 13, 1941, in West Frankfort, Illinois, the first of four children born to Calvin J. and Beulah Daniels Flynn, followed by her brother, Jerry; and sisters, Andrea and DeAnne. She grew up in West Frankfort attending Joiner Elementary School and graduated from West Frankfort High School in 1959.
She went on to attend the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota that summer of 1959, and graduated second in her class, qualifying as an airline stewardess, and as a teletypist. She was employed by Freeman Coal Mining Company as a teletypist and postal clerk from February 1960 until she moved to Heyburn, Idaho in July 1961.
She met her husband, Marvin Christenson, in March of 1960, and they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on September 20, 1961. Just one month later in October, Marvin was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
While stationed at Fort Hood, Sue and Marvin had their first two babies, Carrie Lynn and Devin Ray. After two years in the service they moved to Heyburn, Idaho, where they raised their seven children; the latter five, Rockye G., Sonya De, Derk Lund, Wendy Ann, and Monica Sue, were all born in Cassia Memorial Hospital in Burley, Idaho.
Sue had a contagious laugh and was a great storyteller. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to watch old movies. Sue was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons and was a piano consultant for over 30 years. She also wrote and published a music book entitled “Improve Your Playing”.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many capacities including, Ward Organist, Sunday School Organist, Choir Accompanist, Relief Society Pianist and Chorister, Primary Pianist and Chorister, Sunday School Secretary, Nursery Leader, Young Women’s President, Mia Maid Teacher and Seminary Teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Lund Christenson; her six children, Carrie Wake of Burley, Devin (JoAnn) Christenson of Burley, Rockye Christenson of Portland, Oregon, Sonya Hubbard of Springville, Utah, Derk Christenson of Heyburn, and Wendy Christenson of Heyburn; her two sisters Andrea (Bill) Cronin of Detroit, Michigan, and DeAnne (Gary) Newman of Thompsonville, Illinois; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Beulah Flynn; her brother, Jerry Calvin Flynn; and a daughter, Monica Sue Marchbanks.
We are very appreciative of and grateful for the wonderful care our mother received for the six weeks she was at Gateway Transitional Care Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Mom enjoyed the staff very much and was tearful when she talked about her caregiver. Thank you for serving our mother in her time of need.
