Richard LeRoy Young

Dec. 20, 1953 - May 2, 2022

Date of Service: May 18, 2022

BURLEY – Richard LeRoy Young, a 68-year-old Burley resident, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at his home in Burley.

Richard was born on December 20, 1953, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to parents, Ralph LeRoy Young and Twilla Gaye Rose Young. His family lived in Murtaugh, Idaho, when he was born, but the nearest hospital to have a baby was in Twin Falls.

In 1982, Rick met Kimberly Errecart. The two were introduced by Kim’s best friend, Patty, who invited Kim to join her to take chicken noodle soup to Rick after having his wisdom teeth pulled. They would later joke about Rick having a mouthful of cotton from his healing wisdom teeth the first time they met. Rick and Kim were married September 16, 1984. They had a son, Robert Young, and, in total, Kim and Rick spent 37 years of marriage together.

Richard worked for many years as a hydrologist for the US Geological Service, which he eventually retired from. He worked hard in his career and took great satisfaction and pride in helping materialize our water resources in useable ways. In retirement years, Rick and Kim lived in the trailer court on Parke Avenue where they made many cherished friends. Richard took good care of the trailer park as a groundskeeper and was well-liked by many of the residents. In his spare time, Rick loved to follow NASCAR. He was a skilled woodworker and made the dining table in their home as well as many other wood crafts. He also liked to play the dice-game Kismet.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.
