Lamar Cook Smith

Oct. 13, 1929 - Jun. 10, 2022

Date of Service: Jun. 16, 2022

RUPERT – Lamar Cook Smith, age 92, of Rupert, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, at Autumn Haven Assisted Living, in Rupert.

Lamar was born October 13, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho, one of eight children born to George W. and Lestra Harriet Cook Smith.

Lamar was introduced to Florence Warren by a blind date that was setup through a connection to a family member. The two were married April 12, 1952, which union lasted until her passing on August 18, 1988. Shortly after their marriage, Lamar responded to the call to serve his country in July of 1952, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in April of 1954.

Lamar will be remembered by his family as a loving father and grandfather who was always supportive of their many events and who enjoyed spending the holidays with them. He had a great sense of humor with a quick wit, and was full of funny one-liners. He loved camping, fishing, jeeping and bowling. His campfire-roasted marshmallows were always cooked to perfection. He had a nightly routine of treating himself to two scoops of ice cream at 9 p.m.

Lamar is survived by his two children, Connie (Mike) Atchley, and Tom (Michelle) Smith; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Glenda Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; six of his siblings; and a granddaughter, Jordyn Smith.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service.
