BOISE – Nelma (Hunsaker) Abrams, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on September 14, 2022, joining her Heavenly Father, grandchildren, and loved ones that have gone before. During her time on hospice, she was never alone. She was always surrounded by family.

Nelma was the sixth child born to Alfred and Nellie Florence King Hunsaker, on July 1, 1939, in Heyburn, Idaho. Nelma lived in various states including Utah, California, Arizona, and North Carolina before returning to Idaho. She graduated from Minico High School where she was valedictorian of the class of 1957. Her high school best friends were Carleen Beaver and her twin sister, Darleen Beaver, Lillian Jensen, Arlene Cole, and Cheryle Tracy. She met her eternal companion, Lewis Frederick Abrams, at a stake dance in 1955, and on March 20, 1957, they were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were married for over 65 years.

Nelma and Lew had six children: Mark, Matthew, Eric, Bryan, Julie, and Jennifer. Needless to say, there was never a dull moment, and she had her hands full. Nelma enjoyed caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking and the family favorites were her homemade bread, potato salad, kuchen, as well as individual special birthday cakes. She also enjoyed crafts such as making photo album covers and fabric dolls. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and would do so every chance she could.

Nelma worked as a teacher’s aide, a cake decorator at Baskin Robbins, and as a secretary at El Dorado Hospital in Tucson, AZ.

Nelma’s church callings consisted of Relief Society President, Roadshow Coordinator, a stake Young Men’s secretary, and a Sunday School and Primary teacher.

Nelma was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Marcus Abrams; her parents; two brothers, Ross and Dale Hunsaker; sister, Velda Barras; brothers-in-law, Blaine Rasmussen, Dick Paoli, Roy Jensen, William (Bill) Davidson, and Dave Packer; and one sister-in-law, Doris Hunsaker.

She is survived by her husband; her children, Mark (Denise), Matt, Eric (Joni), Bryan (Natalie), Julie (Jeff) Vrba, and Jennifer (Laura); four sisters, Lois Rasmussen, Shirley Paoli, Carole Jensen, and Beth (Dennis) Loosli, a brother-in-law, Paul (Donna) Abrams; three sisters-in-law, Jean Davidson, Kaye Packer, and Susanne Hunsaker; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank St Luke’s Hospice for the special care they gave Mom as well as the many various acts of kindness from family, friends, and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Services or the charity of your choice.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Indian Lakes Ward, located at 3555 S. Cole Rd., in Boise.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Rupert 3rd Ward, located at 526 South F Street in Rupert, where a visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.
