James Annest

May 6, 1927 - Sep. 20, 2022

Date of Service: Oct. 4, 2022

HEYBURN – James Annest was born in 1927, at his parents’ home, near Declo, Idaho. James was a lifelong resident of the Mini-Cassia area. He served in the Idaho state legislature for the 32nd and 33rd sessions between 1953 and 1957, and he was a member of the Idaho State Bar for 60 years. James was a master of legal procedure and would litigate any type of case. Because of that, he was known by many people as a go-to for general legal services.

James was also a farmer; his life spanned a time that went from horse-drawn farm implements to tractors being guided by GPS that cost more than a house. James loved farming and could make almost anything grow and produce.

James Annest, lawyer, farmer, advocate, and adversary died peacefully in his sleep at home in Heyburn, Idaho, on the morning of September 20, 2022, at the age of 95 years.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, where family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, October 3, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Burial will be in Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley, with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

From Michelle Hunt:
Uncle James had a great loving heart and was a truly “fun” uncle who made great efforts to spend time together. I always enjoyed his company, sharing a ton of laughs. My memories are that he was easy to talk with and open to new adventures - incredibly resilient, loved to work hard, happily drove everywhere, gave me (and my kids) straight advice, enjoyed good food and sincerely loved his family. He was devoted in whatever he managed. I’ll miss him. It’s nice to know he’s reunited with his beloved son, Abraham - and having great belly laughs again with my dad, his brother, Leo. I’m thankful for Uncle James.
From Dina Carrell:

From John Walsh in New York:
I thought Jim would live forever. And he almost did. He and I met 50 years ago on 16th Street when I gave him a ticket for driving 10 over. Naturally he took the ticket to court, and claimed that he had been "lulled and beguiled" by the author6 to believe that 10 over the limit was OK. He lost, but we became friends right then and often laughed about the "lulling" and "beguiling. " Jim was a great guy. A tremendous conversationalist.
From Salina Smith (Timmons(:
James was a great friend and lawyer for my parents. He was always a Go getter in everything he done. I never realized how old James was til I seen this.

I CAN'T believe it wasn't mentioned that he was proceed in death by his son Abraham (that boy was such a hoot)..

R.I.P James

From Tim and Jana Darrington:
Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of James Annest. He was our good neighbor and farm landlord for many years and we gained a deep affection for him. He was interested in the farm and supportive of Tim’s ideas in improving the land. He loved to talk politics, law, a bit of religion on occasion, and family. We looked forward to our visits and will miss our association with him.
