Date of Service: Sep. 30, 2022

BURLEY – Vernon George Green, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, September 24, 2022. He was born April 2, 1939, in View, Idaho, to George Vernon Green and Mable Jane Thomas Green.

After completing the 9th grade, Vernon went on to pursue a career in rodeo. In 1958, he was the All-Around Rodeo Champion. In 1960, he started working for Ore-Ida. In 1961, unbeknownst to him, this was where he would meet the love of his life, Ellen Jo McNeely. Vernon swept a shoe down the drain and had to give the lady a ride home. It was love at first sight. Vernon and Ellen were married May 29, 1962. They celebrated an amazing 60 years together.

Vernon was very passionate about his chickens, horses and birds.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by one brother, two sisters, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 60 years, Ellen; his six children, Robin (Bruce) Tepley of Middleburg, Florida, Christine (Bernard) Allshouse of Burley, Betty (Steve) Still of Tacoma, Washington, James Green of Burley, Vern (Tina) Green of Burley, and Donna Green of Albion; as well as his 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The Green family would like to thank Intermountain Home Health and Hospice, especially Tiffany and Stephanie.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Star 1st Ward, located at 96 S. 200 W., of Burley, with Bishop Ryan Hobson officiating. Burial will follow at View Cemetery.

From John Walsh:
I remember Vern as a fine man, a generous man; a man who loved his family without question. We met through our love of birds--racing pigeons; although Vern had several varieties of chickens too. I have nothing but great memories of Vern.
My condolences to his family.
