MALTA – Wilma Pierson Taylor, an 87-year-old resident of Malta, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at Highland Estates Assisted Living in Burley.

Wilma was born April 3, 1935, in Plymouth, Utah, the eldest of six children born to George Earl and Melba Grace Rudd Pierson. She was raised in Plymouth, attending elementary school there, and later attending Bear River High School in nearby Tremonton.

She married Otto Boyd Taylor, Sept. 5, 1952, in Ely, Nevada; they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on May 8, 1967.

Wilma enjoyed time spent with her husband, Boyd, and their children and grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, making many meals for her family and, in earlier years, for the elementary students at Yost Elementary. She also loved to quilt and sew and was very skilled at both.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served where needed.

Wilma is survived by her children, Julie Ann Tomlin of Las Vegas, Nev., Sherrie (Scott) Erickson of Almo, Curt (Treena) Taylor of Oakley, and Blair (Ron) Folsom of Island Park; as well as 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sonja (Gary) Woodruff; and three brothers, Orvin (Esta) Pierson, Blaine Pierson, and Russell (Chris) Pierson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd; sister-in-law, Carolyn Pierson; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Mel Evans.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 30, at Yost Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Boyd.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Highland Estates and Visions Hospice for their care of Wilma.

From Emily Vandyke:
I knew Wilma in Yost. She was a very dear friend to my parents and family there. While I lived there she taught me how to crochet christmas trees, hot pads and kitchen towels and gave me a tour of her home chocolate factory. I'll always remember the Relief Society craft days that she led showing us how to make all kinds of things from fabric picture frames and christmas ornaments, to designer doll clothes for sets of wooden dolls. Her example and influence in my life is great and will always be a part of me. Sending much love to all of you.

One of the best neighbors you could ask for! I remember hers was one of my favorite homes to trick-or-treat (she made the best homemade treats), and I still have the pound puppy she sewed for me. Heaven has an amazing woman joining the ranks.
