Barbara Ann Braxdale

Nov. 8, 1943 - Feb. 16, 2024

Barbara Ann Braxdale, 80, of Nampa, Idaho, and formerly of Burley, Idaho, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Wellsprings Health and Rehabilitation of Cascadia in Nampa.

She was born November 8, 1943, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Barb was a beloved Girl Scouts of America leader and a dedicated community member who touched the lives of many.

Barb had a heart of gold and was ready to help when she was needed. As a Senior Girl Scout Troop Leader she helped her troop camp explore careers and provide community service. She cared deeply about others and tried to help them accomplish their goals.

Barb’s passion for Girl Scouting led her to work for the Midland Empire Girl Scout Council in St Joseph, Missouri, for many years before retiring and relocating to Burley, Idaho. In addition to her dedication to Girl Scouting, Barb was an avid reader and an active member of her community, volunteering her time to help those around her.

She was known as “Bob” at Camp Woodland and she mentored girls throughout their camp experience. She served as a camp director and mentor for many summers and provided a special place for girls to experience the outdoors. Her Camp Woodland songbook was legendary!

Barb is survived by her dear friend, Dr. Leanna Hoffman; a sister, Janet Hurst; one nephew, Timothy Hurst; her niece, Amanda Treadwell; and a great-nephew, Malcolm Treadwell. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jane Flakne; her father, Ernest Braxdale; and her stepfather, Louis Flakne.

Barb will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her kindness and dedication to others will always be cherished by those whose lives she touched.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

I admired her so much. I learned a lot from Barb as a Troop Leader, as Day Camp staff and as a friend. She was always willing to answer questions and share knowledge. She will always be remembered and appreciated.

From Leigh Ann (Giz) Dunn:
Barb was one of my biggest cheerleaders growing up in Girl Scouts. As a scout-I went to several national conferences with her, worked for her at camp, and she helped me to earn the Gold award. She encouraged me to do my best, and try new things. It was an honor to work at the Girl Scout council with her right after college. She mentored me in all things program- running a camp, overseeing volunteers and more. She was greatly missed when she moved. I am truly honored to have known her and to have her as a “Gold Friend”!
From Susan “Woody” Lainhart O’Brien:
My heart is so full. Barb was a mentor, friend and co-worker. I loved her like a sister. She formed my youth. I have so many memories I’d like to share. She was loved and touched the lives of so many. I will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace. All of us who knew her in Girl Scouts will stop and sing the anthem Camp Woodland in her memory. I was maybe the only person who she gave her cherished camp songbook to make a copy of my own. She taught me all my camping knowledge. When she moved from St. Joseph she gave me her camp library books. It was such an honor to know her and enjoy the memories we created.
