BURLEY – Our beloved Juanita Jacobsen Kerbs, an 85-year-old resident of Burley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Juanita was born March 20, 1939, in Springdale, Idaho, to Richard Harold and Elsie May (Harris) Jacobsen. Juanita had two older brothers, Richard and Kay, and two younger twin siblings, Darwin and Darlene. She grew up in the Jackson area and graduated from Minico High School in 1957. Juanita took great pride in the fact she and her classmates were the first graduating class to attend all three years at the new high school.

On January 10, 1958, Juanita married Farrell Kerbs in Elko, Nevada. Together, they had two sons, Jeff and Gordon. She is well known for a nickname as a child that has stuck with her throughout her lifetime, commonly known as “Pooch.” Her nieces and nephews still call her Aunt Pooch and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren call her Grandma Pooch.

Juanita held many jobs throughout her adult life, including Beeline Café, JCPenney, J & J Office Supply, and Bank of Idaho. She was also employed by Amfac Electric for 20-plus years and Minidoka Memorial Hospital for 30-plus years. This is where she made numerous lifelong friends.

She was a member of the Burley United Methodist Church. She had a passion for making ceramics and spending time in her flower garden. Numerous people in her life have received her work as a gift. She also was a very avid sports and activities fan for her sons and grandchildren throughout their high school and college years.

Surviving Juanita are her two sons, Jeff (Tori) Kerbs and Gordon Kerbs, both of Burley; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jacobsen of Burns, Oregon, Brenda Jacobsen of Twin Falls, Julie Kerbs of Rupert, and Mardene Adams of Burley; grandchildren Jenger, Keri, Kellen, Taylor, Kassi and Kayla; 14 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by two infants; her parents; four siblings, Richard Jacobsen, Kay Jacobsen, Darwin Jacobsen, and Darlene Weber; several aunts and uncles; and her loving husband, Farrell.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with the Rev. Ken Haftorson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley. A luncheon for friends and family will be held at Morey’s Steakhouse following the graveside service.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Visions, 455 Parkview Loop East, Twin Falls, ID 83301, or a charity of choice.

From Paul Allred:
Gordy and Jeff, I’m very sorry to have heard that your wonderful Mom recently passed. I was in Burley today for a funeral and drove past our old schools, our homes and even Bob Mai’s place too where we spent unbelievable hours playing sports games.

I thought of the countless times Juanita always genuinely waved at me with her kindly smile me no matter where I was, and, also cheered on our Burley school teams regardless of weather conditions, location, or how terrible we were playing. I respected your Mom and felt her kindness and concern for all of us who were your teammates.

God bless you both as you remember your Mom’s love and care for you and many many others whose lives she influenced in a permanently, meaningful way.

Paul Allred — BHS Class of ‘79.

I absolutely loved living by Juanita for 2.5 years there. She also brought us Juanita tortilla chips with her salsa. She was such a sweet, kind neighbor. She would surprise us with a loaf of bread and a home cooked meal. She was so kind. I’m sure her husband is happy to welcome here home.
