BURLEY – Debra Ann Barlow, a 72-year-old resident of Burley, left this world to be with her family in Heaven on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

Debra was born on August 9, 1952, in Anchorage, Alaska. She was the oldest daughter of six children who were lucky enough to be born to William Elihu and Patricia Ann Felton Pettingill.

She grew up and lived in Anchorage until the age of seven when they moved to Blackfoot for a short time. The family then moved to Burley, followed by a short stint in Declo. Debra then finished her youth in Burley.

She attended Burley High School and graduated with the class of 1970. During her school years she was an avid participant in music. After high school Debbie attended Ricks College where she received an associate degree in music performance.

On February 1, 1973, Debra was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of her life, Brian Golden Barlow, in the Ogden Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they moved to Hill Air Force Base, in Utah, where they had two amazing sons, Brian Travis and Matthew Golden. They lived in Utah until 1976 when they then moved back to Burley.

Debra worked at Overland Elementary School and Mountain View Elementary School teaching music. She also taught piano and voice lessons from her home. Debra and Brian worked and eventually purchased the NAPA Auto Parts store in Burley. In 2015, they sold the store and retired shortly thereafter to spend more time with their children and grandchildren.

Debra's greatest passion in life was her music. She was an incredibly talented pianist and vocalist. She spent many years leading ward choirs, directing special community performances, and singing at events. Debra wrote and published two songs, “I Will Serve with All My Heart,” and “Come unto Me.”

Once their grandchildren came, Brian and Debra spent their lives dedicated to being with them. Debra loved nothing more than to spend every moment she could playing, chasing, laughing, reading, and loving her grandchildren. She made it to every event she possibly could so she could support them and let them know she loved them.

Debra was greatly loved and admired by her church community. She served various positions over the years. She touched so many lives with her strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Recently she served as a temple worker at the Twin Falls Idaho Temple every Tuesday, where she made many dear friends.

We are incredibly saddened at the loss of our dear wife, mom, sister, friend, and grandma. She will be forever missed by those who loved her. Her laughter and smile will live on through her kids and her grandchildren.

Debra is survived by her loving husband, Brian; her two sons, Travis (Stephanie) Barlow and Matthew (Shannon) Barlow; her nine grandchildren, Kylee (Cameron) Carbine, Braeden Barlow, Haven Barlow, Madison Barlow, Morgan Barlow, Colson Barlow, Kyrian Barlow, Noah Barlow, and Emberly Barlow; her great-grandchild, Stevie Carbine; her siblings, Tami Isaacson, Trudi (Ron) Dymock, and Paula John; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Patricia Pettingill; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Golden and Velma Barlow; siblings, Patrice Griffin and William Pettingill; brothers-in-law, Dave Patterson, Arlin Barlow and Doug Barlow; and granddaughters, Ashlynn Barlow and Everlee Barlow

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Idaho West Stake Center, located at 2420 Parke Avenue, in Burley, with Bishop Brian R. Muir officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, December 1, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, preceding the funeral, at the church.

From Danyel Newman:
Debbie was one of my favorite people. She will be very missed. Brian and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
From Lisa (Moses) Mullins:
I was so grateful to have Debbie as my elementary music/choir director. Her love and enthusiasm for music made that class and group so enjoyable. In my youth, I appreciated being able to continue learning from her during the multi-stake choir productions. Beautiful, talented soul! She will be missed!
From Roger & Julie Reynolds:
Sorry for your loss! Prayers for the family.
From Kim Pettingill:
Cousin Debbie was a balm to the soul and will be missed. I feel so fortunate that I was able to reconnect with her again after uncle Bill passed. She was instrumental in reconnecting me with other cousins that I was able to visit in late summer of 2023 while vacationing in Idaho. Living in Virginia has made frequent visits with the family challenging, but I hope to further my relationship with the Pettingill’s and continue the journey Debbie started. It won’t be the same without Debbie and I feel the giant hole in our family by her loss
From Cindy Tuckett:
I am so sorry to learn of Debra's passing. I just was in Burley a couple of weeks ago, and saw her and hugged her. We talked about the days when we sang together, and how much we missed doing that. I will miss her energy and spirit, and most of all her friendship. She was a wonderful friend. She taught my children in school, and loved them. I will miss her. I love you Debra.
From Bruce and Guylia James:
I remember wishing I could be like her! Always a smile on her face and never a mean word! The Thursday before we learned of her passing we saw her waiting in the car for Brian. She had a huge smile on her face and was waving! I don't think she ever knew a stranger!
From Leon Clegg:
I grew up with Debbie from jr high school on. She was a hoot! Never a harsh word from her or Brian. They have been family friends for most of our lives. Our dad's were friends because they were both in the gas station business for many years. I will miss her sweet smile and her fun talks and jokes. She and Brian are the perfect examples of living a christ like life. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian and the Barlow family. All our love
Leon & Dori Clegg
From Jeanine Erickson:
Blessings of peace and comfort to her family. Debbie is a gem - now a heavenly gem! Grateful to have her influence in my life if even just for a brief time. Grateful for her example.
From Christy Tracy Williamson:
Deborah was such a wonderful friend and mentor for me. I met her first as my voice teacher when I was in high school. She gave me the gift of music which deed so much joy to my life for years to come. I feel so blessed go have known her. She was the light that pulled me through a very dark time in my life. I will forever be grateful for her love and amazing example. God. Less you and your family through this difficult time. I know she is still serving others on the other side. That was just her nature.
From Debbie Brown:
I served with Deb at the Twin Falls Temple on Tuesdays. She was always so willing to help me in the Clothing Center when she had a free moment between her shifts. I will always remember her sweet smile and her energy to share her talents. I will miss having her just 'pop-in' for a quick conversation. She made me feel so joyful and exuberant!
From Alesha Ruffell Stringham:
Debra was an amazing teacher. I had her in the 5th grade as my music teacher and she brought so much joy to me. She taught me the true love of music and the arts. She touched my life in ways I can't explain, however she was my angel. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
From Al and Kathy Barrus:
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Our community has lost a very special lady.
From Brek Pilling:
There aren’t any better people than Brian and Debbie Barlow. There will be a void in this world without her but Heaven is a much better place today. I will miss her kindness, intelligence, and mutual love for music. She was my choir director for many years and we shared the same testimony of Jesus Christ. I’m positive her reunion with him was beyond words. She knew without any doubt or wavering that Jesus Christ was who he said he was. The savior of all people. The Lord of ocean and earth and sky. Of the whole universe. She is an example to all. I will miss her for a tike but am confident we will sing in the same heavily choirs.
From Crystal (Rucker) Tracy:
Debbie was such an integral person of my youth. He sons were my brother's friends, she was our YW leader. She had amazing musical talent and we were blessed to have heard her music often. She was rarely without a smile. She was definitely an angel on Earth. Love to her family.
From Ben McClure:
I had the privilege of working closely with Brian and Debra Barlow when they served as Burley Institute Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for about a year and half. They were an incredible asset to the program. They loved the young adults and related so well to them. Their loving spirit and powerful testimonies of Jesus Christ and the restored gospel were amazing to witness. I sure appreciated their friendship and support. My heart and love go out to Brian as he navigates this difficult time.
From Shannon Hyer:
I will miss Debbie dearly. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and I have many fond memories of spending time with the Barlows. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
From Elisa Wari:
When I met Aunt Debbie she had open arms and so much love to give/share with me. I'm so glad that I got the chance to meet up with her and spend some good quality time with her. I will miss her and the conversations we would have.
From Kim L.:
Sister Barlow blessed the world with her music. She always had a smile and a hug for me since the time I was young and Brian was serving as Bishop, through my adulthood and I would come visit my home ward. Growing up, I would ride my bike by their home and ring the bell under their mailbox to let them know I loved them and was passing by. I will always think of Sister Barlow whenever I hear the songs "Consider the Lilies" and "Come Thou Fount" as she directed those in ward choir several times and you could tell how strongly she believed their messages. I believe she has joined angels in choir in Heaven. My love and heart goes out to Bishop Barlow and his family. I hope you will be able to find peace in the coming days and feel her near as she watches over you from on high.
From Jon Lambert:
My sympathies to my cousin Brian and the family. When he married Debbie Pettingill I thought it was a big win. I always enjoyed being around her and respected her for so many reasons. Faithfulness and hospitality being two that come to mind. I am sure she will be deeply missed by those who were close to her.
From Jan Manning:
So sad to read this news. You two were so fun to be around. Smiles all the time. My prayers are with you and your family.
From Penny Ralphs:
So grateful for the opportunity she provided for several of us to be a part of the Lex de Azevedo, "Hosanna" event in Jerusalem. Deb's sacrifice to make things happen for the community blessed so many. Love her rendition of Battle Hymn. So talented, so giving, and joyful. With gratitude our paths crossed. Brian and family, God bless you with comfort and peace.
From William pettingill:

From Kiley Jones Pierce:
Debra Barlow is one of my all time favorite people! She was my first young woman’s leader; one of my first memories of her is being at her house for mutual and she was seriously TERRIFIED to pop open a Pillsbury cinnamon roll package (she called Brian in the room to do it for her). Later ward boundaries were realigned and I was moved to another ward. I was devastated. So, I signed up to take voice lessons from her, I was not an aspiring singer nor was I any good at singing but I missed her and I missed being around her. A month ago she sent me a text message recalling and sharing something I told her 31 YEARS ago. She remembered all these years! Two weeks ago I saw her in the temple and she gave me the biggest hug. It almost felt like home! I am currently serving, as she did for me, in the young woman’s program and I hope I can be an ounce of leader, confidante, cheerleader, spiritual giant, ray of sunshine, and friend to my girls that she was for me.
From Marcia (Garett) Price:
Sorry for your lose! You are a beautiful talented lady! My brother and his wife grew close to you and your family! They loved the dinner group and the love and laughter!!

From Tonya Gregersen :
I used to babysit for Deb and Brian many years ago. I enjoyed that. I remember the kindness she always had in her heart.
From Mary John:
Deb was so nice to me whenever I saw her. She made me feel so loved with a big smile and hug. When I first met her I wasn’t even apart of the family yet. She welcomed me into her home and talked with me and then we sat down to sing together. I always felt like she really went out of her way to help me feel welcomed.
From Melissa Simmons:
One of most favorite humans. She radiated sunshine and happiness! So many memories that impacted my life. She will be greatly missed.
From Sharon Hardy :
