PAUL – Randy William Newton, 74, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident while out on his farm doing what he loved.

Randy was born September 19, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Degraw and Lavelle Rupp Newton. He joined his brother, Dennis, to round out the family circle. He was educated in Salt Lake City and graduated from Bingham High School. He gave two years of his life to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California. He found joy in sharing the gospel and his love of his Savior with the people there. When he returned home he joined his brother, Dennis, in serving in the Utah National Guard 115th Maintenance Division as a mechanic, learning many of the skills that would aid him in his career as a farmer. First with his father and later with his brother and ultimately with his son and grandsons.

Randy met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Connie Chatelain. They were married in the Ogden Utah Temple for time and all eternity on July 7, 1976, and spent the rest of their lives faithfully working together through the good times and the times that tried their souls. They were blessed with one son, Marcus, who grew up to be a farmer just like his father. Connie passed away in 2020 and Randy has truly missed her greatly. They are together now never to be separated again.

Randy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving wherever he was needed. Some of his Boy Scouts still tell stories of their adventures together. At the time of his death, Randy was lovingly serving the Lord as a temple worker in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple and teaching a youth Sunday School class in his ward.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 40 years, Connie; his parents; brother, Dennis; and Connie’s parents, Louanne Ellis and Eugene Lathe Chatelain.

He is survived by his son, Marcus and his wife, Lacey; and his two precious grandsons, Skyler and Jeremiah. They will miss him.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Emerald 2nd Ward, located at 300 S. 500 W., in Heyburn, where family and friends will be received from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Officiating will be Bishop Chris James.

Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

From Dean O. Woodland:
I was one of Randy's scouts. Late September of '78 he loaded his Datsun completely full of backpacks and skinny scouts for a hike-in overnighter to Independence Lakes. At dusk wolves, i.e. coyotes, were howling on the ridges above and a wet heavy snow began to fall and continued all night. Of course we thought we were going to die of exposure to an unexpected winter and wolf attack. Randy repaired the collapsed tents and removed the heavy snow all night. He kept us dry, made many snow boots from a tarp and fended off any imagined attack of the fanged foes. At midday he path finded our way down to the Datsun which miraculously got us off the snowy mountain.
Thanks Randy a good neighbor, scout saviour and friend.
From Alec Dixon:
I will always remember how enjoyable it was (most of the time) to run parts for you. Me and Skyler have many memories with you.

We will miss and love you, Grandpa Randy.
From Marlene Wilkins Box:
Randy and Connie were so giving and caring for my mother after my father’s passing. Always stopping in to check on mother. Randy carrying on that service after Connie passed away. Such a kind gentle man
From Susan Neibaur :
Randy was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He was such a “gentle man”! We will all miss him out on the north side. Loved your mother Connie also. I had seen the flowers that your dad left on her headstone the day of his accident. It was very tender and sweet. So sorry I was out of town and missed the service, however, I watched it and it was beautiful. Love, Susie.
From Alan Johnson:
So very sad to learn of Randy’s tragic passing. Randy was a sugar beet seed customer of mine for many years. As a result, we became friends and enjoyed many visits. Randy was a hard worker, always polite and concerned for his family, whom he loved. I will miss you Randy!
From Denise C Moore:
I will see you on the otherside. Randy was honest, loving and patient. A wonderful husband to my sister, Connie.
From Idaho State Veterans Cemetery Blackfoot:
