BURLEY – Helen Virginia Hitt-Buttars, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to family. Born on October 17, 1937, in Malta, Idaho, to John Charles and Fern Lavinia (Lloyd) Hitt, Helen grew up on the family ranch, where she learned the values of hard work and resilience that would shape her life.

In 1955, Helen was honored as the Cassia County Fair Queen, a testament to her grace and charm. The following year, she married Therald Ira Buttars, the love of her life, and together, they built a beautiful home in Burley, raising their three wonderful children, Carey Ira Buttars, Joni Lynn Buttars, and Darin Therald Buttars.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Fern; and her beloved siblings, Jack Hitt, Kenneth Hitt, Jim ‘Pud’ Hitt, Ed Hitt, Fern Lavina Adams, Molly Steed, Jerry Hitt and Dennis "Butch" Hitt. She also experienced the heartbreaking loss of her husband, Therald; her son, Carey; and her granddaughter, Alexandria Carey Buttars.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Joni Buttars; and son, Darin (Christy) Buttars. Helen was a proud grandmother to Taylor (Brooke) Armstrong, Zachary Buttars, Ethan Buttars, and Quintin Buttars, and a great-grandmother to Brody Armstrong and Ashton Armstrong, who will cherish her memory and carry forward her love and wisdom. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Marie) Hitt, who remained a steadfast presence in her life.

Though Helen has left this world, her kindness, determination, and devotion to those she loved will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her warm smile, generous spirit, and deep love for those she held dear.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Pomerelle Place for the compassionate care and kindness they showed to Helen. Their dedication and support brought great comfort to her and her loved ones.

A service to honor Helen’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E 16th St., in Burley. The family will be welcoming visitors prior to the service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.

He was not only a family friend but we spent many hours with him as we enjoyed his motorcycle skills & great sense of humor!
