MALTA –Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Betty Ann Wight Higley, 77, of Malta, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in Burley, Idaho.

She was born on August 3, 1948, in Brigham City, Utah, to Jacob Blaine and Viola June Engelking Wight. Betty Ann spent her childhood in Malta and Juniper, Idaho, where she grew up on the family farm and learned the value of hard work. She attended Malta Elementary and graduated from Raft River High School. After graduation, she attended Idaho State University and earned a secretarial certificate.

Betty Ann met the love of her life, Ted Higley, and they were married on August 24, 1967, in the Salt Lake Temple. The couple began their married life in Burley before returning to Malta to take over her family’s farm. It was there where they raised their four children and built a true family farm, working side by side through the years.

In addition to her work on the farm, Betty Ann clerked for Valley Livestock Auction, Burley Livestock Auction, and U.S. Auctions.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Betty Ann served in many callings throughout her life. She and Ted also faithfully served as missionaries at the Bishop’s Storehouse.

Betty Ann was known for her welcoming home and her fierce support of her children and grandchildren. She rarely missed their activities as long as her health allowed. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, shopping, Sunday drives, and making her annual December trip with Ted to the NFR.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Higley of Malta; her children, Heath (Dawn) Higley of Malta, Heather (Shawn) Godfrey of Perry, Utah, Hank (Lacey) Higley of Malta, and Holly (Brian) Ottley of Declo; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with four more on the way.

Betty Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Vaudis Ward and Delma Udy; her brother, Gale Wight; and her granddaughter, Ashley T. Marie Jaylynn Higley.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Malta Ward, located at 280 N. 1st West, in Malta, with Bishop Jake Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Vu Cemetery in Malta.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, September 7, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and Monday, one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
