BURLEY – Colton David Moorehead of Burley, Idaho, passed away the day after his 30th birthday, in a vehicle accident on his way home from hunting, on the evening of Sept. 3, 2025.
Colton was born on Sept 2, 1995, in Merced, California to Rodney and Raela Dykstra Moorehead. Just one short year and four days later their family got to welcome his baby brother, Clayton Daniel Moorehead, to complete their family. Colton lived with his family in Merced and graduated from Merced High school in 2013. Growing up Colton enjoyed playing baseball, motorcycles and snowboarding. He was a member of FFA where he showed pigs and competed on the small engine repair team. In his spare time, you could find him hunting or fishing in the great outdoors. After graduating high school, he attended Northwest Lineman College in Chico, California. He completed line school, packed up his truck and moved to Dillon, Montana where he got his first job as a lineman, with Western Line builders. While in Montana his family relocated to Aurora, Colorado and Colton spent the following years in various locations, pursuing his career as a lineman. Colton eventually landed in Idaho for work and fell in love with the state.
In 2021 Colton met the love of his life and best friend Taylor Raye Sickels. They bought their first home together in Burley, Idaho in the fall of 2023. Colton and Taylor worked side by side as lineman for Western Line builders. When they were not working you could be sure to find them casting a line from the boat in the Snake River or in the mountains. If they were not hunting or fishing, they would be playing hard. Rather they were on a snowmobile, motorcycle, boat, truck or foot you could guarantee their two fur babies, Rusty and Whisky boy were not far from their side. Although they never officially made it to the altar, it was in the plans.
Colton is survived by the love of his life, Taylor Sickels (Rusty and Whisky Boy) of Burley Idaho; his parents, Rod and Raela Moorehead of Aurora,Colorado; his brother, Clayton (Sarena) Moorehead of Middletown, Idaho; his grandparents, Don Moorehead of Merced, California; and Carolyn and Jim Edmondson of Kemp, Texas; his niece, Presley Sams of Middleton, Idaho and TBD baby Moorehead coming in March of 2026, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandpa, David Dykstra of Merced, California; his grandmother, Sue Moorehead of Merced, California; and his best good boy, Bumper.
Colton was an avid and adventurous outdoorsman. Always so happy and smart beyond words. If it was broken, he could fix it. He was a motivated and loyal partner, son, brother, uncle and friend. To know Colton was to love him. He will forever be in our hearts and missed beyond words. Forever 30.
An informal remembrance of life is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Burley, Idaho. Details to follow.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
