BURLEY – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Lamont Basil Carson, 82, passed from this earthly life on September 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Lamont was born on November 27, 1942, the second son of Earl Basil and Virginia Myrle (Anderson) Carson. He grew up in Burley alongside his older brother, Earl Gary Carson, and younger sister, Linda Kay Wilcox.

His early years and education were spent in Burley, where he learned the value of hard work at the age of 14. His first job was working for Wayne May at Farmer’s Corner. On one occasion, Wayne entrusted him with a new pickup truck and sent him alone to Ogden, Utah, to retrieve peaches from an orchard—a task he completed successfully, showing responsibility beyond his years.

Just one month before turning 18, Lamont enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Through hard work and determination, he earned the rank of Third Class Petty Officer within two years. He made lifelong friends and took pride in serving his country. His only brush with conflict came during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when his ship was deployed to combat-ready status to protect the United States from nearby Russian vessels.

Upon returning home, Lamont began an apprenticeship as a pressman at the Burley Herald Bulletin (Burley Reminder) where he worked until his retirement in 2004. In June 1964, he married Colleen Wayment, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with “the finest children in the country”: Shaun Lamont, Preston Basil, and Jennifer Lynn. Later, he was equally blessed with wonderful spouses for his children: Carrie Matheny, RaeAnne Jones, and David Dimick.

Lamont was never idle. In 1974, he purchased 40 acres to begin farming, eventually expanding to 160 acres. A lifelong dream fulfilled, he relied on the guidance of his mentor and neighbor, Gale Searle. Lamont’s farm was the first in the area to implement sprinklers on project ground, with permission from the Burley Irrigation District—a letter he proudly kept. This innovation allowed him to balance farming with his full-time job. In 1985, he also started a small dairy, milking cows in a stanchion barn for 19 years.

Lamont was always willing to sacrifice anything for his family. A generous and selfless man, he held a deep love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, often attributing his success as a blessing from his Heavenly Father. He encouraged his family to attend church and nurture their personal relationships with the Savior. He prayed frequently and taught his children the importance of serving others. He was always grateful for his service-oriented, hardworking children.

Lamont is survived by his wife, Colleen; children, Shaun L. (Carrie) Carson, Preston B. (RaeAnne) Carson, and Jennifer (David) Dimick; grandchildren, Taylor “Duke” (Taylor O.) Carson, Colby (Shandler) Carson, Camille Carson, and Carson, Carter, and Connor Dimick; and great-grandchildren, Quincy, Cannon, and Montee Carson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Corban Preston Carson; and his older brother, Earl Gary Carson.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 22, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - View 2nd Ward, located at 490 E. 550 S., of Burley. Burial will be at View Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, September 21, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 9:45 until 10:30 a.m. Monday, prior to the service, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ronald McDonald House charity, 935 East South Temple St., Salt Lake City, UT 84102; www.rmhcslc.org
