DIETRICH – Acey Ryan Shaw, born April 20, 1974, in Jerome, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 14, 2025, at the age of 51. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Acey spent his life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

Acey was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From 1993 to 1995, he served as a missionary in the California San Diego Mission, where he loved sharing the gospel and bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. His love for missionary work and the Savior remained with him throughout his life, influencing the way he served his family, friends, and community.

On June 22, 1996, Acey was sealed for time and all eternity to the love of his life, Jalyn Belle Howard, in the Portland Oregon Temple. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He was the proud father of three children and the adoring grandfather of five grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Acey attended Ricks College and later completed his bachelor’s degree at Utah State University in Crop and Soil Science. His education deepened his passion for agriculture and prepared him for a lifetime of farming, a work he truly loved.

In 2011, Acey was diagnosed with an illness that he courageously endured for 14 years. Despite his challenges, he continued to dedicate himself to his family and community. He coached for 20 years, throughout those years his teams won four state championships, three second-place finishes, and one third-place title, appearing at the state tournament 15 times. His influence extended far beyond the basketball court, where he built lasting relationships and inspired countless young athletes with his leadership, encouragement, and love of the game.

He was happiest when ranching, farming the land he cherished, coaching basketball, and spending time with his loved ones. Whether in the field, on the court, or at home, he gave his whole heart to everything he did. His work ethic, encouragement, and kindness left a mark not only on his family, but also on the countless young athletes and friends whose lives he touched.

Acey is survived by his loving wife, Jalyn; their children, Jacey Bateman (Clint) of Nephi, Utah, Kade Shaw (Sarah) of Dietrich, Idaho, and Jett Shaw (Malia) of Paul, Idaho; grandchildren, Taytum, Bentley, Archie, Scottie, and Quinn; his parents, Hubert and Rita Shaw; his brother, Andy Shaw; and his three sisters, Cammy Berthelson, Colette Harris, and Alicia Rivoli. He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of farming and ranching, his passion for coaching, and his unwavering generosity.

Acey’s family finds peace in the knowledge that families are eternal and look forward to the day they will be reunited with him again. As the Savior taught, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, September 19, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Dietrich Ward, located at 160 S. 660 E., in Dietrich.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday, September 20, at Dietrich High School Gymnasium, located at 406 N. Park Street, in Dietrich, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Dietrich Cemetery.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, please Venmo-Jalyn-Shaw.

From Mary Ellen Minton:
I admired Coach Shaw from New York and had the deepest respect for his resilience and determination. My son John had the pleasure of following Coach for a story on ESPN. It was a wonderful relationship they formed and John viewed him and his family as close friends. I pray Coach Shaw is at peace with God and I send the family my condolences and prayers.
From Stacie Sorensen :
I will miss Acey so much. Jalyn and family you in my thoughts and prayers.
From Sharee Udy Petersen:
I met Acey several years ago at summer BB tournaments in Carey. I watched Acey with amazement as he helped his girls understand and love the game of basketball. Several years later (2022) I had the pleasure of getting to see Acey on a daily basis for a couple weeks at Craigs Rehab in SL. I watched Acey as he endured many trials that most of us take for granted. But never once did I ever see Acey without a smile on his face and he was always concerned for others, never for himself. It was there in SL that I met Jalyn for the first time. Wow!!! What an amazing lady!! She looked at Acey with love in her eyes, as he did to Jalyn. Two great examples of love and patience. My condolences to you Jalyn and your family.
From Scott and Gay Searle:
Hubert and Rita and family, we are so sorry for your loss! Please know that our love and prayers are with you!
From Dianne Poulson-Bair:
We met Acey and Jalyn down at Nielsen’s Rehabilitation Hospital. My husband had just been in a biking accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. We were trying to figure out who the crazy man was who raced around the hospital in his wheelchair, taking the corners on two wheels. Acey was like the “welcome wagon,” helping us get established at Nielsen’s and learning the rehab we would need to do. He helped us so much, even though I couldn’t always understand him. He was amazing in so many areas, and so was Jalyn. Acey was incredible, but Jalyn was my hero. She was so kind and loving to Acey. She had (has) a spiritual depth that helped me to navigate my “new normal.” She is my example in so many ways! “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” They have both endured their trial so nobly, and it was and is, a privilege to know them both. I learned so much from them! Love you, Acey and Jalyn! Dianne (and Scott) Poulson
From Leland Spencer:

There are many people that talk the talk but don't walk the walk!
Acey wasn't one of them. He walked the walk and had many followers that loved and respected him. I'm one of them. In his presence I could feel the love he had for his Heavenly Father. He never preached to me. It was a silent presence I will remember always. He was a great role model and coach. Rest in peace, Acey.

A great coach! An even greater human being! I enjoyed my relationship with Coach Shaw over the many years of officiating high school basketball. What a classy person! I always enjoyed going out to Dietrich. He always had the upmost respect for me and I respected him more than words could ever describe. May our Heavenly Father bless your legacy and each of your family. What a comfort to know that Acey will be made whole again and will be waiting for each of his family. What a tremendous teacher, coach and spiritual giant.
