RUPERT – Our Mommy, Patricia Ann Sunderland, passed peacefully, October 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello
Patricia was born November 14, 1933, in Colter, California, to Orien and Zola Sayles, their first daughter and third child of six children. The family moved to Salem, Oregon, in 1935, where Pat set her sight on her future husband, Max Sunderland, who was her best friend, Norma’s, brother. At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, and they remained happily married for 72 years.
Pat followed her husband in pursuit of his dream of becoming a farmer when he drew a homestead in Minidoka, Idaho, through the Veterans Homestead Drawing. While Pat was willing to tolerate the two-year period required to claim the land before returning to Oregon, 66 years later she would tell you it was the best move of her life. On this farm they raised their four children, Connie, Debra, Kyle and Janice; and welcomed 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max. She is survived by her children, Connie (Kirk) Lawrence, Debra (Tim) McCarthy, Kyle (Barbara) Sunderland, and Janice (Rod) West.
There are no words to describe the unconditional love our mother gave to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
