PAUL – Heaven has gained a beautiful, giving woman who loved her family, served the Lord, and was the ultimate caregiver and hostess. Cheryl Ann McCall of Paul, Idaho, died December 19, 2025, from complications of influenza.

Cheryl was born November 19, 1936, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to Glenn and Ethel Simmons. She was the oldest of seven siblings. Cheryl spent the first nine years of her life in Moran, Wyoming and then her family moved to Burley, Idaho, in 1945. After graduating from Burley High, she moved to Boise and enrolled in the St. Luke’s Nursing Program. Cheryl received her registered nursing license in 1957. It was a busy year for her because just a few months later she married the love of her life, Frank McCall. They tied the knot on July 21,1957, and together they raised three children, Jim, Brent, and Bonnie. They were married for 63 years until Frank’s passing in 2020.

Cheryl was a busy lady. She was the consummate nurse, always caring for her family, friends and neighbors. She was known for her cinnamon rolls, so delicious, and her table was always bountiful. She was an avid gardener, and her yard was a testament to her love of flowers and everything bright and beautiful. It brought her joy to arrange flowers and make sure the Church altar had an arrangement every Sunday. Cheryl was active in the Paul Community Church and earlier the United Methodist Women’s group and a Church youth group leader. She was an active member of the Mini-Cassia Master Gardeners, and was Flower Superintendent of the Minidoka County Fair for many years. In her earlier years she also participated in the Pioneer Club, the 57 Desert Dozen, and the Snake River Trail Machine Club. She also worked at the old Cottage Hospital Maternity Ward in Burley.

Cheryl and Frank hosted countless family gatherings where memories were made and will be forever cherished. Hosting a Christmas morning brunch with a full buffet of delicious food was a tradition that she and Frank started some fifty years ago. Family and friends enjoyed the gathering and it was a tradition that the family always looked forward to. Birthdays were celebrated with pie, cake and homemade ice cream. Any reason to gather and have a party, she was on it!

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; and her parents, Ethel and Glenn Simmons; and her half-sister, Jean Hamilton.

Cheryl is survived by her sons, Jim (Laurie) of Paul, Brent (Tara) of Rupert, her daughter, Bonnie of Kimberly; her sisters, Lona Lohmann, Janet Depedro, Mary Hearin, Helen Simmons, Judy Holland, her brother, Bill Simmons; her seven grandchildren, Beth (Bing) Parkinson, Heather McCall, Heidi McCall, Luke (Hailee) McCall, Sara (Roger) Pilkington, Seth Duff-McCall, and Erin (Chris) Evans; the apples of her eye were her ten great-grandchildren, Kayden, Grant, Zoey, Taylor, Anna,Clara, Jack, Grimm, Ian and Atlee. She loved teaching them to bake, arrange flowers, and garden.

Words cannot express how much Cheryl will be missed by her family. She was our Matriarch and beloved by not only her family but the many friends, neighbors and acquaintances that met her. Through her grace and love she served her family and Lord well.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, with her nephew, Dennis Hesselbarth officiating. Burial will follow at Paul Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Such a beautiful soul! Heaven gained a truly phenomenal person through its pearly gates once more. If all human beings could be like Cheryl, what a truly wonderful world this would be! I'll miss our sweet talks over tea and cookies, talking on the patio by the babbling fountain, and the showing of gorgeous flowers and veggies in the garden areas. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the McCall family during this difficult time. Love and hugs.
From Rob Schorzman:
I was deeply saddened to hear of Cheryl’s passing. Cheryl will be greatly missed by all who knew her. I often told her, “The McCall family are absolutely the best darn people you can be around, have in your life, and they are always there for you if you need anything—without question.” That spirit of love and support started with Frank and Cheryl and continues to shine through in her great-grandchildren today.

I feel truly privileged and blessed to have known Cheryl. Her kindness and caring were like no other, and her warmth touched everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and generosity that will never be forgotten.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Cheryl was one of those people that once you met you never forgot . She always seemed to be in a good mood and would stop and visit with you. She was a member of the 57 Desert Dozen with my mother and never seemed to miss a picnic or party they held. It was fun to drive by her yard and garden and admire it and think yours could look the same but it never quite happened. Rest in peace Cheryl, job well done
