Stanley Lyle Barkes

Aug. 8, 1941 - Jun. 21, 2026

MURTAUGH – Stanley Lyle Barkes, a devoted husband, father, and steward of the land, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 85.

Stan was born in May 8, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Clarence L. and Bessie Inez Randell Barkes.

On November 11, 1961, he married Dixie Hranac, beginning a partnership with her that spanned over six decades. While the majority of his years were spent in the Murtaugh area, Stan and his young family spent five years living in Kansas before returning to the familiar landscapes of Idaho. He was known for his dedication to his work and his deep roots within his community.

Stan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dixie Barkes, who passed away on July 19, 2025, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Todd Lyle and Jeremiah Charles; and a daughter, Lisa Ann.

His memory is cherished by his surviving children and their spouses: Jennifer (Dan) Taylor, Joni Marie (Steve) Klamm, Tara Rebecca (Mark) Porter, and Chauncey Blue (Andrea) Barkes.

Stan also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members who will miss his presence, humor and guidance.

Stan was a man of the land, a trait that defined his character as much as his work. Whether he was tending to the family farm in Murtaugh or navigating the challenges of life, he approached everything with a steady hand and a quiet determination. His five-year tenure in Kansas was a chapter he often recounted with a mix of nostalgia and appreciation for his eventual return to the familiar, vast landscapes of Idaho. Friends and family will remember Stan not just for his dedication, but for his humor. He had a way of making people feel welcome, and his guidance was always offered with a gentle wisdom that left a lasting impact on his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
