Larry R. Jones

BURLEY – Larry Reed Jones, age 81, of Burley, passed away Friday, July 17, 2026, at Parke View Care Center in Burley, where he had resided for the past several years. Larry will now be free to go fishing and hunting every day, and those were his passions in life.

Larry was born in Burley, Idaho, to William R. and Emma Jones on October 13, 1944. He was their first child and was welcomed into the world by numerous family members. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Burley, Idaho.

Larry attended the Opportunity School in Burley for several years and learned many life skills. He began working with his father at Bill Jones Automotive (later Burley Auto Parts), doing parts delivery on his bicycle, and after a few years he started repairing starters, alternators, and generators in the shop. As he got older, he started working with his brother Steve at Burley Small Engines, repairing lawn mowers and various small motors. He enjoyed being active in the family businesses until his health declined.

He loved going fishing and hunting with his father and brothers, and anytime you talked to him, he would most likely say, “I’m goin’ fishin’ tomorrow”, mostly talking about going to Wood River. He loved camping at Stanton Crossing and loved smoking his Swisher Sweets “ceegars” around the campfire. There were many hunting stories Larry would tell, and he always seemed to be shooting his “firty-firty” Winchester lever action rifle. He loved being out with his family, whether it was fishing, hunting, watching his brothers, nephews, and nieces play whatever sport they were involved in.

He was a dyed in the wool fan of the Burley Bobcats no matter the sport and loved listening to KBAR Radio announcers (especially the late Doug Manning) more than once Doug would give a shout out to Larry during the broadcasts, and it would tickle him to hear his name on the radio. While at Parke View he always looked forward to visits from Gordon Kerbs who was a distant cousin and a coach at Burley High School. Gordy would always ask him what he had for dinner and the answer was always the same, “hamburger and beans”. He would tell anyone who would listen about Burley beating whatever team they happened to play, but it was usually “Burley beat Minico”, whether they had won the game or not.

In his later years he was moved to Parke View Care Center in Burley, and as hard as it was to make that transition, Larry loved his new “Day Care” and rarely wanted to leave. He would always say “the girls will take care of me”, and he loved it there. The family wishes to thank the staff at Parke View for the care Larry received while he was residing there.

Larry loved his birthday and Christmas, and enjoyed when his brothers, his sister, and many nieces, nephews, and numerous family members would gather at Parke View to celebrate with him. Everyone knew his fondness for “ceegars”, and he loved when people would bring him wafer cookies that he would “smoke” during the celebrations. It was easy to buy for Larry as he always wanted “thumper bumpers” (pajamas), portable radios or wristwatches.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Percy and LaRena Jones and George and Kathryn Kerbs; his parents, Bill and Emma Jones; one brother, Dennis; a great nephew, Connor Reed Jones; and a nephew, Shaylon Shaffer. He is survived by his brothers, Rick (Cheri) Jones, Steve (Shelley) Jones, Jack (Barb) Jones; and one sister, Charlene (Gary) Bartlome; nine nephews and one niece; and twenty great-nieces-and-nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, with Pastor Quinn Yarbrough officiating. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Larry loved parties, so there will be a “party” and celebration of life immediately following at Morey’s Steakhouse in Burley.

I have good memories of Larry. I live on the same street the Jones live on. Larry's brother and I were best friends. We graduated High-school together and attended College together. Larry's was always part my Life. We all spent time together hunting and fishing with Larry. I later work with the Family at Burley Auto Parts. Larry would deliver Parts on bike and I remember one summer day we sent him on delivery. The side door to front of the store was open. The next thing we heard was barking and yelping from dog chasing Larry on his bike. Larry rode the bike thru the door and use His feet to stop. When saw that it was little dog we all were laughing. Larry was a joy to be around he will truly be missed . God's blessings be upon You the Family as We remember Larry for the Joy he brought and knowing He is Finally Home.

Our families have known each other for many years.
When I was growing up and working in my dad's station.
Larry would walk or ride his bike down from your dad's parts house. All he ever talked about was any sport Burley was playing. Always asked me who was going to win. I would say minico. You could see the anger building.
He would calm down when I bought him a coke!
He loved coke! So kind and genuine. Thats all he ever knew. We send our sincere thoughts and prayers to all your families.

This broke my heart to open the obituary to see Larry passed away. Larry was a Sweet, Caring, Funny and helpful to my great grandma. I'm not sure of any of you remembering Amy Garner who lived next door on the corner (green house), Not only was Larry a caring an helpful person to my grandma why your father was also. GREAT GUYS. I spent alot of time with grandma and there was never a day that went by that Larry would step out and visit. It was always a laugh with Larry and when I read the article saying he loved watches I just grinned an it made me think of the day he walked over was talking with us an he was so excited about a watch he was given. He definitely loved talking about fishing an there was one day he told my grandma they needed to having a fishing contest LAUGHING. If we was sitting at the table when Larry would go for a walk why he stand there and wave at us. Larry was the sweetest person.
