RUPERT – Velva Casper Irving, age 80, of Rupert, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, at Autumn Haven Assisted Living, in Rupert.
Velva was born on August 23, 1946, in Rigby, Idaho, to Harold Glen Casper and Ada Louise Sorensen Casper. She was the seventh of nine children and one of a set of twin girls.
Velva grew up in Shoshone and Dietrich, Idaho, graduating from Shoshone High School in 1964. She married Arthur Dean Irving on June 12, 1965, in Shoshone. Together, they raised their three sons, Jeffrey Dean, Daniel Harvey, and Kevin Glen. Velva and her husband, Art, were sealed on August 23, 2019, for time and eternity in the Twin Falls, Idaho, Temple.
Velva worked a variety of jobs while raising her family before beginning a long and successful career with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Boise in 1977. Over the years, she held several positions and ultimately worked in the Field Solicitor’s Office. Her dedication and professionalism earned her numerous U.S. Government awards and recognitions.
In 1994, Velva was seriously injured in an automobile accident near Gooding, Idaho, in which her younger sister tragically lost her life. After months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, Velva courageously returned to work before retiring in 1996 due to her injuries.
Velva loved crocheting, camping, and cooking, especially holiday candies and sweets. She was an avid Boise State University Bronco football fan. She loved watching her Broncos while sitting in her log-style rocking chair that her husband, Art, had purchased for her. Velva also had a love for game shows. She watched Jeopardy! and The Price Is Right, but she really enjoyed Wheel of Fortune. Many evenings after the game shows, she would bring out her Sudoku.
Velva will be remembered for her strength, determination, hard work, and devotion to her family. She faced life’s challenges with courage and perseverance and took great pride in the life she built and the family she loved. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
Velva is survived by her siblings, Vonnie Clark, Edith (Claude) Stolp, Carol Irving, and David Casper; and her sons, Jeffrey Irving, Daniel (Linda) Irving, and Kevin (Adriana) Irving. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Adam (Jessica) Irving, Olivia Poole, Morgan Irving, Alexis Irving, Tayler (Alessa Amante de Irving) Irving, Zachary (Tully) Irving, Megan Irving- McEwen (Duncan) McEwen, Cheyenne (Shane) Kempton, and Hannah (Tucker) Egan; and eleven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Connor, Riley, Ryker, Waylon, Derek, Rafael, Amelia, Devan, Lorenzo, and Ephraim.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dean Irving, of 60 years; her parents, Harold and Ada Casper; her brother, Richard Casper; and her sisters, Delva Nielsen, Laurel Owings, and Myla Samuelson.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all friends and loved ones for their visits, prayers, and support.
