Barbara "Lou" Vosburg

Sep. 20, 1933 - Oct. 7, 2026

Date of Service: Oct. 17, 2026

DECLO – Barbara “Lou”Vosburg, 93, passed away peacefully at her assisted living home on October 7, 2026, in Sparks Nevada.

Barbara was born on September 20, 1933, in Declo, Idaho, the fifth of ten children born to Otis Alonzo and Berniece Cahoon Fries. She grew up in Declo and graduated from Declo High School, where she met Fred Kay Vosburg. The were married in Elko, Nevada, on August 10, 1953. Barbara always called him Kay and didn’t discover his legal first name was Fred until after they were married. They shared 64 wonderful years of marriage together.

After welcoming three children in Declo, the family moved around a few times before settling in Sparks, Nevada, where Barbara lived out the rest of her life. No matter where she lived, Declo was always “home” to her.

Barbara dedicated 29 years to the Washoe County School District lunch program. She spent the majority of her career as the head baker at Reed High School, and later served as the lunchroom manager at Lincoln Park Elementary. A faithful, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings but was best known and loved as the ward librarian.

Barbara loved life! She enjoyed early morning walks and a strict Thursday tradition at Jack in the Box—tacos, curly fries, and a Coke—with her best friend, Betty. She loved camping, water aerobics, sewing, reading romance novels, collecting dolls, and going to the movies. She had an infectious laugh that was often more entertaining than the movie itself. She was an extraordinary baker. Her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls were the best.

Above all, Barbara loved her family. She treasured her annual “sister trips” with her three sisters, traveling to a new destination every year to shop till they dropped and laugh until they cried. It was a highlight of every year.

Barabara also treasured backyard cookouts with her children and grandchildren, playing backyard baseball. She once reflected, “I enjoyed being a mother, raising our three children, going on camping trips and going to ball games or whatever they were involved in. Kay and I love being grandparents, going to all the grandchildren’s events and activities. One day I’ll enjoy being a great-grandmother.”

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kay; her son, Fred Glen; her parents; her sisters, Mavis, Merlene, and Janice; and her brothers, Don, Dale, Rex, Charles, and Dean.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Steve) Sydenham of Sparks, Nevada; her son, Gary (April) Vosburg of Hemet, California; and eight grandchildren, Jessica, Christina, Stacey, Jason, Sara, Amanda, Justin, and Andy; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and her brother, Gene Fries of Declo, Idaho.

Our family is deeply grateful to everyone at Brookdale Assisted Living for the care they gave Barbara over the last nine years.

A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 17, at the Declo Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.
