Marilyn O. Baily

Oct. 28, 1943 - Dec. 8, 2020

Date of Service: Dec. 19, 2020

RUPERT – Marilyn Odene Baily, a 77-year-old resident of Rupert, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.

Marilyn was born October 28, 1943, in Burley, Idaho. She was the only daughter of James “Earl” and Mary (Smith) Sorensen. She lived her entire life in the Rupert area and graduated from Minico High School in 1961. After graduation, she started working at a local bank. A couple years later she met Royce Baily, and they were married May 1, 1963. She loved helping Royce on the farm and raising her daughters. Marilyn enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, traveling, and going on long drives. Her husband, Royce, passed away in 2003. Marilyn then spent her time managing the farms, visiting her daughters, loving her grandchildren and traveling to Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, and Belize. About three years ago she rekindled a friendship with a high school classmate, Gary Bywater. She and Gary spent the past three years enjoying life together; fishing, bird watching on the veranda, and taking leisurely drives around the Minidoka county.

Marilyn loved to laugh, she loved watching her grandchildren grow up, and truly loved talking and getting to know people. She never knew a stranger.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cathi (Thayne) Ketterling, and Cari (Jason) Moodie; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew, and Jessica Moodie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce; her daughter, Cami; and her mother and father.

A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 19, at the Rupert Cemetery, located at 450 N. Meridian, Rupert, Idaho. After the graveside service, a reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 2410 Miller Avenue, Burley, Idaho.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Good Shepherd Foundation in care of Zion Lutheran Church, 2410 Miller Avenue, Burley, ID 83318.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home of Burley.

From Val Scott:
Cathi and Cari,
I am so sorry for your loss. She was a great friend to my mom (Ellie) and I have many fond memories of her and our times together. Sending prayers for healing and comfort.

From Annie & Marty Holmes:
Oh what a shame! Marilyn did a make-up job on me when I was about 12 years old. Made me look like Marilyn Monroe. She didn't have to spend her time with the little neighbor girl while our parents were visiting but she did. What a wonderful lady she was. So glad she got to spend time with Gary in the end. We will miss her!
From Jimmie Flowers :
She was my oldest living friend. I had known her for over seventy years. She will be missed. My sincerest condolences to the family...
From Bryan and Dianne Strate:

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember seeing your parents driving around on the farm, and they were always so happy. I know she was lonely after your Dad passed and I'm glad she was able to find companionship these last few years. She will be missed
From hVH:
Cathi, Cari and families,
Your Mom had such a light ease about her. She seemed relaxed, easy going and had a smile for everyone. I always enjoyed walking into your house or the office where our Mom’s worked together to hear the happy greeting Marilyn would give me. It made me feel like she was so happy to see me! It made me feel welcomed and cared for, like she was so grateful to see me. I always left her presence with a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my face! That’s how kind and loving of a person she was to others. She will be so greatly missed! Sending you all a big hug! Love h.
