From Dina Erling:
Cindy and Family,
Doug has held a special place, in two hearts especially, in our family. For me, he was there when I started my radio journey in 1999 with Charlie and Kat Kountry. I have memories from our mornings together sharing that little table/desk in the studio. Specifically, the day he schooled me on pen placement in the cup. “Always point them down so the ink stays where it’s supposed to and they don’t dry out as fast”. :) I hear him to this day when I’m at my desk putting my pens away. Funny how some things just stick with you.
Our daughter Taylor spent a lot of time sitting next to him at Basketball games when she was the “Stat girl” for Burley from 2007-2010. Their shared “Ginger” status made them buddies. She holds her memories of their bond close in her heart.
The world certainly seems a little quieter without his voice. While our hearts are hurting along with yours, we pray for peace and comfort in your memories as you navigate the journey ahead.
From Cara Lee (Putnam, Putt) Manwaring:
Doug, so sorry you have left us, however you left us so much better than you found us! We will all miss you! Thank you for taking the time to sit on the front porch with my dad, Al, and talk baseball with him. He loved you for it. Your kindness will be missed! Cindy, rest assured you and your family will be watched over and prayed for! You made Doug a happy man!
From Chris James:
Worked with Doug and Cindy both personally and professional over the years. They are great people that meant a lot to this community. I never will forget Doug’s unmistakable voice. He will truly be missed. We pray for Cindy and the family that they may find peace and solace at this difficult time.
From Heidi Higgins Porter:
Oh Doug, so sad to hear you have left us. I’m so grateful to be among the crowd who knew you and loved you. Big hugs to Cindy and all of your family during this tough time of separation. Love you all!
From Derek Cleverly:
Doug was a "big brother' to so many of us. Memories from the 70's of riding with him in the family Cadillac and discussing sports and the gospel of Jesus Christ are still so clear. He was always able to teach and laugh at the same time. His efforts to stay in touch over the years are very appreciated. May the "force" be with Doug as he continues his journey!
From John T Walsh :
I never once thought that Doug would precede me in death, but he has. He and I had some significant differences during the years that I lived in Burley; however, unlike several others, Doug was always honest with me, and always a gentleman. His behaviour often made me uncomfortable, because I expected something sardonic and instead got an offer of friendship. I offer my sincere condolences to you Cindy, and to your great family.
John Walsh in Western New York
From Scott and Chris Horsley:

From Gaylen and Carolyn Smyer:
Cindy and family, we are so saddened to hear of Doug's passing. We ache for your loss and regret that yet another "voice of the Burley Bobcats" has been silenced. We hope you can take comfort in the knowledge that he was an amazing man that loved his family and served his community. His fingerprints are present throughout the Burley community and economic development. He had a tremendous love of family and was proud of each one. We pray the spirit of the comforter will attend you and your family in coming days, weeks, and months. We wish you all the best and want you to know that we love and care about you and yours.
From William Parsons:
A great person with success in all he did, music, government, religion, family, friend, always a smile and a person. We need more persons like Doug in this country. He will be greatly missed.
From Evelyne Schow:
Cindy - I only know you through serving at TF Temple. We’ve visited a few times & you had mentioned about Doug’s health. I am so sorry for your loss! Sounds like you have lots of friends & family for support & I want to add my condolences. So glad you are sealed together in the temple so that you can be together again.
From Jan Taylor Banner:
What a guy!!
My heart is heavy to hear the loss of Doug. He wasn't just a friend, he was part of our family. The relationship started many years ago with Rip and Loanda being dear friends of my grandparents. That relationship grew through the years and generations.
Doug was dearly loved by my family and myself... even better to have been loved by Doug and his family.
Doug will be missed.
Cindy, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Sandra, too.
I'm sure my mom was happy to greet you! She thought the world of you and you ALWAYS made her laugh by just being you.
I have no doubt you were received with open arms and were told, "‘Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Til we meet again....
Much love ~ Jan
From Mary Zarybnisky:
Cindy, I was sorry to hear that Doug had died. You and your family are in my prayers.
From Bruce and Guylia James:
We are so sorry to hear of your loss!! It is a great loss to the community, for sure. Well miss his lame, funny jokes!!
From Lesli Asson O’Neill :
“It was a hot, balmy night…..”, was how the storytelling game started, in the three back rows of the school bus carrying the 1978 Bel Cantos tour to Utah, with Doug as our chaperone. Yes, the grown kid was chaperoning the high schoolers! Eldon Wood wasn’t quite sure what he’d gotten into with Doug as the ‘adult’ helper!
Doug was the best! Every time we spoke, since those high school days, we would start our conversation with that opening line…..and we’d laugh and laugh.
I can’t say enough good about Doug, but I know our Lord said this to him: “Well done, my faithful servant!” when he entered His arms, healthy and whole again!
And now Jesus will get to laugh!
Thanks for the memories, Doug; rest in glorious peace!
From Bob Larson:
Sorry to hear. Doug & I were childhood friends/neighbors. Lot of fun in the snow together. I have a great photo with his childhood home in the background. Kind regards.
From Michael Zarybnisky :
Cindy, sorry for your loss.
From Frank Jensen :
Sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. He was never without a witty reply. He was definitely Rip’s son! He will be missed.
From Reed W Larsen:
Doug will be missed. It is the loss of a friend and pillar of many memories of growing up in Burley. I remember watching him play football when he was a kid. Then watching Saturday Night live at the Mannings in the 70s . I am not sure Mrs. Manning ever understood how her house was over run by high school kids to watch tv and laugh. I had many good laughs with Doug. Doug and Cindy couldn’t be thanked enough for how good they were to our mom as their neighbors. Doug will be missed I hope someone tells some of Doug’s ridiculous jokes to celebrate his life I will miss those occasional phone calls over the years to catch up.
From Steven Thompson:
So sorry, Cindy. Doug's legacy is strong and runs deep. My first memories of Doug go way back to the days of those ball games. Two of the best in my book were Doug and Dusty Anderson. I got to know Doug on much deeper levels when he served as Mayor and in his economic development work. My prayers are with you and your family.
From Marcia Simpson:
I’m so sorry Cindy. Doug was an amazing person and friend.
From Bev Stone. Randy Stone:
Doug was such a great guy. We worked on many city projects together filled with lots of fun times and great memories. He loved cooking the burgers and hot dogs for all the volunteers at the end, just the way he liked them ;). He was a wonderful representative of the City of Burley. Also a great writer, especially his rhyming stories. One of a kind. Job well done Doug. You’ll be missed by many.
From Kim Green:
I will miss Doug’s humor! Just last week when Don Jonson and I visited him in the hospital on the day of his knee surgery, the doctor came in and pointing in our direction asked Doug, “who are these two guys” Doug responded with his sarcastic smile, “just a couple derelicts!” And we all laughed!
Doug, thank you, for being a friend throughout our high school days and through the years! Your fellow classmates will be joining you soon! I’m so happy you are free from pain and can run like a running back once again!
From Korgoren Kipkoech Leonard :
Cindy and family,
It is with deep sadness that I have learned of the passing of Douglas Clyde Manning, father to Collette Brunson, who is my family friend. Reading through his life history, I am deeply moved by the kind of man he was—a life defined by service, strength, faith, and a profound love for his family and community.
Though I knew him through Collette, it is clear that his legacy is powerful and far-reaching, reflected in the lives he shaped and the values he instilled. His story is one of purpose, resilience, and impact, and it will continue to inspire many.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Collette, her family, and all who were blessed to know him. May you find comfort in the memories you shared and strength in the love he leaves behind. Rest in peace.
From Rell and Sanie Baker:
We are saddened at the loss of one of our stalwart community members. We’re blessed to have known him and his family. He has shared his many talents with all of us and we will always remember his enlightened Sunday School lessons. May you find peace in your wonderful memories.
From Paul and Susan Young:
Our hearts are broken and we mourn with you, Cindy, Collette, Ranie, Ryan and all your families. Doug was our gifted friend, and we always enjoyed his wit intertwined with wisdom. His golden voice covered so many community and church events and we especially enjoyed the Star Wars themed Magic Philharmonic Concert that Doug emceed. He was a natural. He wrote interesting articles for the newspaper that made us chuckle. He knew his Savior, and was strong in his faith. We can only imagine the reunion he is having with those he loved and has missed. But we are all missing him on this side.
From Ray Arguello :
Cindy, I hope you and your family can remember the good times to get you through this sadness. Doug was a good man, husband and father and helped make this world better. We will keep all of you in our prayers
From Jon Lambert:
Doug spent a lot of time at our house years ago. Great friend to the entire family. He was always interesting. As a Sunday School teacher of older youth in the Burley 5th Ward he was one of the first to unify the gospel and Star Wars doctrines. He was one of one and will be greatly missed.
From Cherry Mae Smith-Black:

Cindy and family
I cant believe that im reading this about about my good friend and classmate! Please know that Dori and me have you and your family in our prayers. Doug was such a good man and was so concerned about others. He was always calling me about someone and about organizing our class reunions. From high school, he was such a stud in football! He may have talked tuff, but inside that body was a genuine soul. Doug never minced words! You always knew where he stood. Thats such a great trait. I, personally, will miss those talks and get together. May Heavenly Father bless and guide you and your families during this so very hard time. Want you to know how much we love you!
